Leadenham
Village
Hall

Mrs Bridget Cracroft-Eley, Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, declared the new Leadenham Village Hall open on 17th October 1998.

The old village hall started life as a First World War Army hut and was moved to Leadenham from Digby in 1922. Mrs Daisy Coddington, who was present at the opening of that first hall seventy-six years ago, attended the ceremonies for the opening of the new hall.

Various speeches commented on the magnificent effort by Leadenham, which has only 308 names on the electoral roll, in raising such a vast amount of money. "Along the way, we have all had a lot of fun, got to know each other better and achieved a great sense of community"...

"I don't know how they managed it but in addition to the £25,000 for the building, we also seem to have given £2,000 for the land purchase - fair play to you all but I'm still trying to work out how it happened"...

"...this award-winning building is of such high quality that it is clearly significant to both Leadenham and to Lincolnshire as a whole"... "we recognise that village halls are the centre of village life; you can be justifiably proud and I'm proud to have worked with you all"... "...you're a wonderful bunch of people; good luck to you all, it's a marvellous achievement."
Mrs Cracroft-Eley commented that her village was mounting an appeal for bells for the church tower and that after the opening she would be asking Leadenham for advice about raising the money they need.

The opening was followed by tea, a hog roast, fireworks, childrens' entertainment and a disco in the new hall.
