EAUG Barbecue 2006

22/07/2006

Like last year, the barbecue was held at the home of Jean and Dan Glading. In spite of cloudy skies and a little light intermittent rain, it was a peaceful success: warm enough, but not too hot. The food, as usual, was good and plentiful. Fourteen attended and a good chat was had by all.

Martin brought his large marquee-whatsit-thing, the one which unfolds and erects rapidly. Unfortunately one of the legs got buckled during erection, but there was ongoing discussion about its subsequent repair. Fortunately the buckle did not prove to be too difficult a problem when it came to striking camp at just gone 10:30 pm when the temperature was still at 22° Celsius.

After dark the ritual of the quiz took over. It was treated as a "first finger on the buzzer" event, giving the more knowledgeable and quicker-witted the chance to shine and the others an opportunity to relax with a glass of something while being amazed at the knowledge displayed.

Congratulations and thanks go to the hosts, Jean and Dan Glading, for their organisation and enormous efforts which they put into making the event such a success. .
