DANS
MOST WANTED MAN TONY BLAIR
LET'S KICK EM IN THE MARGINALS
DAN's main objective during this time is to make sure that disabled people's civil rights is an election issue and is debated by the parties but more importantly the electorate.
DAN has been instrumental over the past two years at making disability a political issue and we are sure as hell not going to lose the initiative now.
DAN is targeting marginal seats throughout the country for demonstrations and direct action up to and during the election.
We will be demonstrating the inadequacy of the Government's Disability Discrimination Bill and the ineffectiveness of the Advisory Panel which represents no one.
We want to hear from disabled people in these areas who are angry with the government's tooth less legislation. We want to hear about the discrimination that disabled people continue to experience In those areas. We want to expose the reality of our lives and the hypocrisy of this government.
The number one target is Bury South in Lancashire home of Mr Burt. minister for disabled people. We shall also target Bury North next door.
The other targets are :-Birmingham Hall Green ; Birmingham Edgbaston ; Cardiff North;
Vale of Glamorgan ; High Peak ; Amber Valley ; Leeds North East; Leeds North West ; Richmond and Barnes ; Eltham ; Mitcham and Morden; Westminster North ; Northampton North ; Coventry South West; last but not least Basildon.
Other Possible targets are Conwy; Lancaster; Swindon; Wolverhampton South West ; Norwich North; Oxford West ; Hereford.
Nothing rouses a politician's mind more than losing their job. After 17 years this government has lost its opportunity to enlist disabled people's support. We are asking people not to vote for a party which has presided over 17 years of unchecked discrimination of disabled people.
This is potentially a mountain of work which means that 1996 promises to be DAN's busiest year yet.
Over the past two year DAN has worked closely with BCDOP and Rights Now and the Labour Party in its support for private members bill put forward by individual members of the labour party Harry Barnes and Roger Berry.
We. the disabled peoples movement. thought that on coming to power the labour Party would pass its own legislation based on the failed private members bills, In November BCODP wrote to Tom Clarke. Shadow Minister for Disabled People to ask for a meeting to confirm this, since then NO REPLY.
Clearly all the political parties are now on election standby and Labour Party goes to the electorate without a commitment to introducing civi1 rights legislation for disabled people we will be left without support in parliament for our cause.
On MONDAY 11TH MARCH DAN has decided that if Blair and Clarke won't go to the mountain then the Mountain will go to them.
On MONDAY THE 11TH OF MARCH at 11 am. DAN will stage an action at Labour Party Headquarters at Wallworth Rd. London.
We want to meet Tony Blair and Tom Clarke inside or outside.
We want them to give us unequivocal assurances that they will work with disabled people's organisations ions to introduce comprehensive Anti discrimination legislation when they come to power -
AT THE LABOUR PARTY HEADQUARTERS WALWORTH ROAD LONDON.
For more details get in touch with the national office on 0181 889 1361 or write to DAN 3 Crawley Rd. Wood Green., London, N22. 6AN.
FRIDAY 29TH MARCH AND SATURDAY 30TH MARCH DAN'S 6TH NATIONAL ACTION
Nottingham has NO accessible Buses. the "Robin Hood" local train Line is inaccessible as far as transport goes Nottingham is a cripple free zone I
Even their local H.P. Mr Kenneth Clarke holds his surgeries up some steps. You4d think with all his money he could build a ramp I
DAN is paying a visit to Nottingham to see what the public think of this state of affairs and to ask the transport operators what are their plans if they have any I
This will probably be DAN's largest action yet so let us know if you are coming and what you need.
We thought we would have a Robin Hood theme for the action and the new ~T" Shirt will be Lincoln green. Feel free to come in fancy dress I
The best way to get involved in DAN is to come to the national actions. Just read the reports inside from people wno went to our last national action in Birmingham.
Please make every effort to come. It's going to be fun.
