Here are a couple of news cuttings which made me smile....

When the Faeces hit the fan

A Sri Lankan charged with theft threw a plastic bag filled with human faeces at a policeman, but it hit a fan and showered the court, court officials said yesterday.

They said Subhasinghe Premasiri, who had been charged with stealing gas cookers and cylinders, had taken the bag out of his pocket and thrown it at policemen when he was asked to step into the witness box. The bag struck a fan, got entangled and the entire court was showered with excreta."

Rottweiler Savaged by Peccary

A hog like animal released from a children's wildlife park by intruders has badly injured a pet mastiff and a rottweiler.

The seven stone peccary from South America, which police said is easily frightened, especially by dogs, was one of four set free from the Brambles reserve at Herne Bay, Kent. The other three have been recaptured

Ian Hossick, 47, a publican, was walking his dogs in the resort town when the fight started. "It was like a maniac with a cutlass on the loose," he said. "I hit it several times with a piece of wood but it simply shook itself and got up."

His 11-stone mastiff needed 120 stiches and his 10-stone rottweiler 50.

Strong Hand

All those in favour of stricter discipline in schools might care to take the recent example of a Tokyo teacher. Leading a school camping trip, he found that two pupils had brought sweets along and not offered to share them. To punish them, he presented them with two hunting knives and told them to disembowel themselves, saying it was the only honorable course to take.

When they refused, he beat them with a tent pole, and had to be restrained by colleagues when he began to make a noose from a guy rope. In his defence, he said he was annoyed with them. "We have suspended the teacher for three months," said the Tokyo school board's Tomio Shimazaki. "We wish to make it clear that ordering pupils to commit hara-kiri is no longer acceptable."
