The Boat House Hotel has been on Dale Road, at the north entrance to Matlock Dale, for over two centuries[1]. It is pictured here just over a hundred years ago, when the quarry behind it was not as extensive as it is today. There is a large signboard on the side of the building, advertising "Hardy's Ale & Stout, Starbright, Sold in bottle". In 1908 John Robinson[2] was at the Boat House hotel and a few years later Albert Holling[3] was the licensee.

"On the Derwent, Matlock" published by Valentine's Series. Printed in Great Britain. Message - a New Year Greeting. Edward VIII stamp.
The original is a sepia tint, but sepia cards often are rather yellow when scanned and this is sometimes difficult to correct.
