From the Reverend David Cutts, Vicar of St Margaret's from September 1994
On behalf of the whole church family, welcome to St Margaret's Church. As the present day custodians of the building, we are delighted that so many people want to visit this ftne church. The history of the church is fascinating. It is certainly a story about a building, but much more than that. It is an account of Christian people who, for many centuries, have appreciated the opportunity of worshipping their Creator here. The story will continue to unfold as we strive to keep a balance between maintenance and provision for worship which glorifies God and is appropriate to the age in which we live. We are very grateful to John Blatchly for his work in revising this guide. As he has explained the church was first dedicated to Margaret of Antioch. More recently, probably initially by mistake, the church community has considered Margaret of Scotland to be the patron. At the moment we are continuing this affiliation, though we know it to be misplaced. We have grown rather fond of the one-time Queen of Scotland and it is comforting to know that we are following a person with a more credible history! Margaret's confessor wrote of her zeal for justice, piety, mercy and love. These qualities are much in need today. Our prayer is that as you visit this church you may experience something of the Spirit of God which empowered Margaret and inspires Christians today. Easter 1997
