VILLAGE HALL, THE GREEN, PARBOLD

Are you looking for a local venue to hold a function? The Village Hall could be the answer.

Two Function rooms are available, one for seating up to 70 people, and a large room which can accommodate up to 200.  Tables and chairs are available to suit individual needs.  There is a fully equipped kitchen with an industrial cooker with crockery and cutlery. Also bar facilities are available on request.

Our hire charges are competitively priced starting at £14 per hour for use of the large function room.  A typical cost of hiring the small room and kitchen for 2 hours would be £30.  At present, the Village Hall, which is ‘disabled friendly’, is used by many organisations on a regular basis for their meetings, activities and musical events. It has on site parking.

So if you are considering where to hold your future events, anything from a small private party to a business exhibition, give us a ring to discuss your requirement.  We can give you a quote and would be pleased to show you the facilities that are available at the Village Hall.

For bookings enquiries:  Pam Joyce on 01257 463878 (9 – 12 am) or 01257 463978

General enquiries:         Sue Halton on 01257 463703

Message from PC Steve Hackney   Parbold Parish Council have received a grant towards the cost of a “YOUTH SHELTER” for Parbold village. A number residents and young people have approached me who are concerned about the impact this shelter may have on the village, fears have been expressed that it may encourage groups of young people to gather who are from outside the village which could affect the quality of life of local residents. The locations which have already been suggested are, The land adjacent to McColls on Tan House Lane, The car park at the rear of the shops on The Common, The Children’s play area on Burnside, Jubilee Gardens, Play area at the Village Hall and Bramble Way.  I would like to request that if you have any views or concerns in relation to the above proposal please could you e-mail me at the address below or alternatively please write a short letter which can be posted either through my door at the Police Station on Tanhouse Lane, or in the box provided for the Clerk of PPC in Parbold DIY centre on the Common.  If you would like to know any further details please contact me.    Tel: 01257 462239 Mobile: 07939 199818 Email: steven.hackney@lancashire.pnn.police.uk

Text Box: APPEAL FOR UNWANTED JEWELLERY – following the success of the Ormskirk Market Stall, the fund raising committee for the Hut-on-the-Hill are asking you to clear out your unwanted bits of jewellery – beads, brooches, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc.  Children’s items too – bracelets and necklaces for little girls were very popular.  Beads and bling were bought for dressing up boxes and amateur dramatics.  One person’s junk is another’s dream.  Also if you have any small bits of gold you no longer want – odd earrings or broken gold chains – these items can also raise money for out much needed Hut.  We have made a tremendous start with our fund raising efforts but we still have a way to go before we can start the work. Please ring Sandy Smith 01257 463407 or Nadine Downhill 01257 464809 to arrange collection.

The car boot sale behind “The Railway” raised a magnificent £293 for the Hut-on-the Hill fund.  A fantastic result for a first attempt at a mini-car boot in the village.  Thanks to Anne Brew for allowing us to use the car park and to everyone who came along and supported.  Cheers to Steve and his gang for donating proceeds from the BBQ.

Text Box: Parbold was the first village to host children from Belarus and subsequently went on to found the Medicine & Chernobyl charity.  Currently there are 11 M&C groups nationally.  Today, 21 years after the disaster, there are still excessive amounts of radiation in Belarus; it is equally as important today as it was all those years ago to bring the children to England.  Fresh food and clean air boosts their immune systems, which in turn, helps the children cope with the winter months.  Temperatures can fall as low as -28 degrees.   That first trip brought 19 children to Parbold. However, now, in 2007 for the Parbold group to continue, it needs to attract new families to host children. Could you be a host family?  There are lots of benefits in hosting a child whilst ensuring the opportunity to meet new friends.  If you would like to know more, the group meet on the first Wednesday of every month at the Windmill pub and you are welcome to come along.  Alternatively for more information or an informal chat please telephone Janet Gray on 01257 462634, Chris Drake on 01695 625515 or Sue Halton on 01257 463703.
