Parbold
Community Association Chairman’s report
By the time you
read this report the next phase of improvements to the
Village Hall will have been completed. The cinema screen
and equipment will be installed in early August and should
be up and running by the autumn. I would like to thank
everyone who has helped in any way to complete this project.
Volunteers are needed for the running of the Cinema Club can
you spare an hour or two once a month? Following the first
film show these comments were made by Cllr May Blake and
reiterated by many members of the public: “I had the
pleasure of attending the first film to be shown “Mamma Mia”
at the Parbold Picture House at the village hall on Sunday 7th
May. May I congratulate the village hall committee and
particularly Mike Bonsall and Sue Halton for organising the
film show. The sound and vision was excellent and very
professional. The village hall was transformed into a film
theatre and one could not help but think they were in a
first class cinema. The picture house was a real treat for
the village and enjoyed by all who attended. May I take
this opportunity to say thank you to the village hall
committee who have worked hard over the past few years
raising over £200,000, from national grant bodies and
charities, to improve amenities. A further £2,000 is still
required to finish work still outstanding and support from
the community at the village hall fundraising events would
help towards raising this sum” Can you help to
fundraise? Our next fundraiser will be a family quiz
night early in September please come and support us. Sue
Halton

Borough Council Housing Needs Survey
This questionnaire
will be issued to every residence in Parbold and I would
urge that you complete the form and return it promptly so
that the Borough Council know what Parbold residents need in
terms of housing. The Borough Council have to build some
new houses to meet government targets. It is very important
that these houses are of the type, and placed in the areas,
that people need. The views of Parbold parish must be taken
into account when making these decisions, so please fill in
the form and let your views be known.
Hedgerows:
Please keep an eye
on any of your hedgerows that adjoin roads and pavements to
ensure that they are not overgrown and causing obstruction.
Likewise, if you have a culvert or watercourse running
through your land please do not be tempted to dump garden
waste into it, which would lead to flooding.
Alder
Lane/Bramble Way:
We are looking
forward to a long, hot summer but please take care of the
land at Alder Lane Playing Fields. The new football pitch
is not ready for play yet so avoid going on there if
possible. Be “countryside aware” and don’t rip branches
from the trees or start fires.
Details of your
Parish Councillors are on the notice board outside McColls
on The Common

A local resident has reported that a number of Golden
Robina trees have died in the Parbold area. He has
completed a small survey and they are located at: Croasdale
Cottage, Lancaster Lane. 2 on Fairhurst Drive.
Station Road, opposite the shops. The Common, opposite the
Community Centre. The junction of Robin Lane with Chorley
Road.
It is a mystery that these trees should all die at the same
time and it is also a sad loss to the community as they
provide splendid golden colours from Spring through to
Autumn. ‘
Forest Research’ believe the problem is a fungus called "verticillium
wilt" for which there is no treatment or prevention. If
anyone has any more information please contact 01257 462424
