PCA CHAIRMAN’S REPORT: ‘Well here we are at the end of the year. Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana. I'd like to thank all the Groups and Organisations who have helped to keep the Hall running during 2008 and hope that this will continue into 2009. Thank You All.

We have our annual AGM on the 18th January, 2009 and I would like to invite you all to attend and maybe join us. I hope you can come.

Lastly, regarding the credit crunch, if you are thinking of going to Las Vegas to make a small fortune, the only way to do this is to go with a very large fortune. May I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year. Take Care’.  Roger Perry.   z

Message from PC 2401 Steve Hackney I have received a number of complaints that vehicles are parking opposite the solid white lines on Lancaster Lane, Parbold close to the junction with Miry Lane and also on Lancaster Lane at the junction to Our Lady’s Church Car Park at school drop off and collection times.  This is not only causing an obstruction for vehicular traffic it is also detrimental to the safety of children attending local primary schools. Vehicles which are parked in this manner may be given a fixed penalty ticket which may also include endorsements on your driving licence.

Parbold rocked on Saturday 15 November, when the Wildkats hit the village hall to raise funds for Medicine and Chernobyl.  Lead singer of the band, Bob Mayson, born and brought up in Parbold sang his heart out.  £893 was raised and a big thank you to everyone who supported the charity.  The Wildkats played at the Cavern in Liverpool on the following night, however we were too tired to attend!

LCC Road Works The Parish Council has received advance warning of road closures for further much needed resurfacing work on the A5209 Course Lane through Newburgh.  The road will need to be closed from Cobbs Brow Lane to the Tawd Bridge for a six week period from the 12th January 2009.  The alternate route will be from the A5209 in Parbold along the B5246 Lancaster Lane, Parbold, and Chorley Road/Robin Lane Hilldale and then down Mains Lane/Hoscar Moss Road/ Ring O Bells Lane and back onto the A5209.  Temporary traffic lights will again be used at Robin Lane and Wanes Blade Bridge and possibly also at the junction of Ring O Belles Road and the A 5209.  Additionally there will be a waiting restriction imposed on Lancaster Lane.  Parking will be prohibited on both sides of the carriageway from the existing double yellow lines 20m south of the centreline of Tan House Lane to the junction with the A5209.  Please bear this in mind if you usually park there to take children into school.  For further details on these road restrictions please contact Alan Eastham, Lancashire County Council on 01772 534561

Parbold Village Festival 2009 The Parish Council is disappointed at the Festival Committee’s decision not to use the Alder Lane Recreation Fields.  For those who wish to see the conditions that advisors insisted were essential for the fields use, please see the letter sent to the Festival Committee.  A copy of this letter is currently displayed on the Parish Council Notice Board on The Common.

Parbold Parish Council wishes everyone a peaceful, happy and healthy Christmas.

TRAVEL UPDATE - Rugby is again due to close on 6th/7th and 27th/28th December - once again avoid journeys to or from London if at all possible.  From December 15th note there is a complete change for Parbold services and the West Coast main line, with faster journeys to London travelling non-stop from Warrington but otherwise somewhat worse connections at Wigan, very much worse for stations between Stafford and London as it will often be necessary to travel via Manchester or Birmingham.

N.B. the 7.41 from Parbold goes to Piccadilly NOT Victoria: a new 17.22 runs from Piccadilly as well as a 17.06 from Victoria: there are afternoon gaps from Southport to help relieve rush hour overcrowding from Manchester.

In summary and with variations of a minute or two through the day:

Trains to Piccadilly leave at 6.41, hourly to 20.41, then 22.41, also 23.28 just to Wigan, with daytime connections at Wigan to: London in 2 1/2 hrs overall , Birmingham (2 1/4 hrs) and connections there to Oxford and Bournemouth (5 1/2 hrs), also Bristol and Plymouth (6 1/4 hrs)

Return from Piccadilly at 8.22 and hourly to 21.20, then 22.36

Trains to Victoria leave at 7.18, hourly to 15.18, then 17.18, 19.18 & 21.41, Return at 8.46, hourly to 15.46, then 17.06 & 17.40 .

More information on these changes and European rail travel opportunities from Parbold is available for Web users in the regularly updated rail travel section in 'odds and ends' in www.parbold.org David Gelder, Tel. 01257 462716
