With miles of deserted country roads, and a wealth of beaches and bridle paths, Northern Ireland is the ideal place to go riding and trekking. The Traffic-Free Routes of the Castlewellan Forest Park are ideal, and are only 5 miles from the Seeconnell cottages. There are 16 fully equipped equestrian centres spread throughout the region, giving the chance to learn how to showjump, perform dressage, or experience a cross-country course.

Particularly close, at Castlewellan, are three centres:
The Mount Pleasant Pony trekking and Horse Riding Centre. Established for over 30 years, it caters for both new and experienced riders, and has horses and ponies for children of all ages. For further information call +44 (0)13967 78651.
The Newcastle Riding Centre (+44 (0)13967 22694) has an indoor school and all-weather paddock, as well as offering beach riding.
The Woodlodge Riding Centre (+44 (0)13967 78947) specialises in trekking and beach rides, but also has an all-weather manege.
