The First Sunrise

sunrise in southampton back to tokyo

The very first picture that Andy shared with Sue was sunrise from his study in Southampton. Sue had commented that the apartment faced away from the sunrise, so she never saw it, and that she didn’t see the sunset much either, because of the high-rise buildings.

So, when there was a particularly spectacular sunrise, he ran back into the bedroom to grab the camera and photograph it.He posted the picture and sent Sue a link and she thought it was a very nice picture. She wasn't able to return the compliment, though, because she was either still asleep or already at work. So Andy came up with the Viewing the Moon idea.

sunrise in shinagawa

When we went out there, Andy became determined to get a shot of the sunrise from Shinagawa Bureau. He wandered around the local canals a lot - that?s where we saw the barge I liked - and eventually came up with an idea. He got up early every morning: he does that a lot anyway but not normally this early. But all I could see was a grey building on the other side of the canal.

Then, this one morning, the sky was clear and I could see what he was on about. There, reflected in the building opposite, was the sun rising over the coast. That building has a sight-line down one of the canals, with no buildings in the way. I was very pleased that he got the shot after all that effort.
