It is aimed at those pupils who have a natural flair/talent for physical education and are committed to a career that would require this subject at GCSE level or above. The limited number of pupils who wish to enrol on this course would have to be approved by those staff teaching them as it would mean such pupils having an extra GCSE subject to study.

Assessment
The components are weighted as follows

a) 2 Terminal Examinations, each carrying 20% of the marks
b) Practical Activities 60%

Pupils are assessed on four activities chosen from the categories below

Athletics
Fitness Training
Dance
Gymnastics
.
Life Saving
Games 1 (eg, Gaelic football, soccer, basketball, etc.)
Games 2 (eg, Badminton, volleyball, etc.)

FOR THE FUTURE

Manv further and higher level courses look favourably on candidates who have obtained a good grade at GCSE. The sports and leisure industry is a rapidly expanding growth area in the ‘job market’ and there are a large variety of careers available linked to Physical Education which include Recreational Management, Sports and Leisure Instructors, Teaching, Occupational Therapy, Sports Journalism, and Physiotherapy.
