GCSE OPTION  - INFORMATION STUDIES
.
The Information Studies course is designed to give students the opportunity to develop their I.T. skills by solving practical problems. With some form of information technology being an important part of the working lives of many people, this is a good course both for those who intend to go further with their Computer/IT  studies at college or university, and for those who feel that skills in this area would be an advantage to them in their future careers. The practical nature of the course appeals to many students, but the ability to solve problems and present work in a way that can be easily understood by others is essential if course work of a good standard is to be achieved.

Assessment
The syllabus has 2 component parts

a)Coursework 20%
b) A Terminal Examination which will comprise of two parts
i.  A Practical Examination (30%)
ii. A Written Paper (50%)
Where the students knowledge of applications of I.T. in business and industry are tested.

FOR THE FUTURE
Possible future courses that GCSE Information Technology would help with are:

a) "A" level Computer Studies
b) "B Tech" Higher National Diploma (computing)
c) Any course where I.T. is an integral part.
(There are many careers that require you to be "computer literate" and as such this course will give the necessary grounding, and be a good start for future development.)
