GCSE OPTION  - HOME ECONOMICS
.
The Home Economics syllabus will focus on three key content areas.
1. Family Life  Where pupils discuss the importance of the family for the development of its members, for strengthening family relationships, and for the good of the community. The stages of development of the family from childhood to old age are studied.
2. Diet and Health  Where pupils develop the knowledge necessary to produce healthy diets for the family and the practical cooking skills to make meals. Modem technological methods of food preparation and production are studied.
3. Choice of Management of Resources  Where pupils develop the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to make them informed consumers and capable home managers.

Assessment

The GCSE examination consists of

a) Coursework Tasks 35% b)Terminal Examination 65%

FOR THE FUTURE
Many careers can be closely linked to the Home Economics course.
These include the Food Industry eg, Hotel I Catering, FoodTechnologist, 
Dietetics, and Bakery/Confectionery.

Careers related to Health & Social Care
Nursing, Social Work, Child Care, Nursery I Play group work, Care Assistants.

Pupils may also study at 6th Form or at college "A' Level Home Economics, 
or GNVQ Health & Social Care providing they achieve a respectable grade at GCSE
