PUPIL TALK.

Hi! My name is Karen McGaughey. I am thirteen years old and I live in a small village in County Tyrone, N.Ireland. The village itself is called Plumbridge. It is quite small but very scenic and friendly. It is about ten miles outside Omagh and I enjoy living there. The school is small, friendly and very close to where I live.

The school was first opened in 1969. People around the village including my grandfather Billy McGonigle built it. He was the clerk of works for the company that built the school. As I have said, this school is quite old and has been renovated over the years. My dad also went to this school when he was about my age, including all of his friends that are now the fathers and mothers of my friends today. The school has been changed a lot. There have been improvements and more extensions. As you know there have been a lot of Principals in this school including Mr. Strong our recent headmaster. He came from Manchester in England and was a Principal over there as well. He started work as our principal the same time as I and the rest of the first years, last September 1998. We met the previous Principal Mr. Kennedy too but he retired and never got to teach us.

I was quite famous one time when our music teacher Miss Devine took us off to Belfast to enter "THE UTV SCHOOL CHOIR OF THE YEAR". We didn't win but it was great fun to get on the TV and taking part. St. Bridget's of Omagh came first and Enniskillen were the runners-up. The reason we took part in this competition was not only the prize but for fun and getting to see the UTV studios, it didn't matter if we won or lost it was a matter of taking part.

The reason I am taking part in this competition is to tell everyone what a nice school we have. Where everyone knows everyone else and that makes it a nice, friendly place.

Yours' Sincerely

Karen McGaughey.
