Greek wines

Tuesday 14th November, 2000

Greece has one of the oldest wine making traditions in the world and its wines, arguably, have reflected this. The rustic Retsinas and dusty Demesticas tasted on holiday have, in the past, been unmemorable. But things have moved on. Modern technology has been grasped by a new generation of winemakers and some startlingly good wines are emerging. They may not be cheap and some of the grapes may be unpronounceable but they are well worth trying. Oddbins agrees. Having 'discovered' Australian and Chilean wines in recent years, they see Greece as the next new wine 'hot spot'.
