Tuesday 9th January The Rhône Valley

In this delightful part of Southern France, there are very many wine styles and grape varieties (for example, up to 14 grape types can be used in Chateauneuf-du-Pape!). There has also been a good string of recent vintages with the 1998 reds being hailed as the best since the fabulous 1990. From Tavel rosé through increasingly exciting whites (not cheap), to some of the classic Hermitage and Côte Rotie reds. And also, we hope, a rather unusual fortified dessert wine which is red.
