Well Done Gateway Members
Happy Talk members receiving their certificate from the Mayor of Middlesbrough Jady Baig with his Adult Learners Certificate Didn't we do well? During Adult Learners Week, held at the end of May 2000, Gateway members Diane Mclintock and Jady Baig were nominated for individual adult learner awards, and the Happy Talk Pen Pals for a group award. Diane and the pen pal group had their certificates presented by the Mayor of Middlesbrough at a special presentation event in the Southlands Centre. An extra-special presentation event was held at the Gateway Club where Jady was presented with his framed certificate and individual certificates were presented to the Happy Talk members. We also thought that Wendy (the Adult Education Tutor)should have an award of her own to say thank you for all her help and support so Debbie presented her with a bouquet of flowers from us all. Congratulations and very well done everyone.

Gateway Gets Lottery Grant!
Middlesbrough Gateway Club has been awarded a National Lottery Charities Board grant to expand their activities over the next three years, 2000,2001,2002
The major activity is the club night, held at Lothian Road Day Centre on Wednesday nights. Apart from being good fun, and a chance for the members to meet (and make) friends, it provides an evenings respite for their parents or carers.
The grant will enable us to offer daytime courses, especially using the computers Mencap and Gateway have accumulated over the years. (One has a 17 inch touch-screen, so nearly anyone can use it easily, no keyboarding skills required, another has a drawing tablet and pen for budding artists, then there’s the voice recognition system, and the touch-pad)
Other courses planned include First Aid, Bereavement, and Food Hygiene.
Contact the office for further information, or to suggest other ideas.
