We’re In The News |

Towards the end of May the Evening Gazette published a special magazine supplement called Can Do! which celebrated the achievements of local disabled people. Middlesbrough Mencap & Gateway had a full page ‘spread’. The article not only helped to publicise our activities and let people know that we are here but also helped us advertise for new volunteers. |

On 26 June there was a a wonderful article in the My Story section of the Evening Gazette, on George a baby with Downs who was born to parents Tracey and Darren Whitfield. The article also featured Linda Dickinson and Alfie who we, at the office, have come to know very well. |

Mencap Millennium Awards |
|
The Mencap Millennium Awards support 150 people each year, with time from an enabler. The enabler supports people to achieve their aim, to follow a new interest in the community. They help people to achieve a personal goal and to make lives fuller and richer. With one-to-one support people can achieve more than they thought. There is time to apply for the final year awards to take a step towards fulfilling dreams. To be considered for an award next year, apply between now and the end of December. You can obtain a form by ringing the Mencap Millennium Freephone Hotline on 0800 917 8658. Decisions on awards will be made in April 2001 and support from an enabler will begin at the end of April. |
