Seven Years in Tibet

SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET stars Brad Pitt as Heinrich Harrer, the German SS mountaineer and Olympian who scaled the Himalayas and trekked to the forbidden city of Lhasa in mystic Tibet (with his equally intrepid companion Peter Aufschnaiter), after escaping a British concentration camp in India. Once in Lhasa, Pitt is befriended by the "god-king" Dalai Lama, then a precocious boy of 12. This is the first "good German" film to screen in many years, though it is marred by a couple of slight tips of the hat to political correctness. Harrer's book, by the same name, now reprinted sans any "correctness," is recommended.
