The 29th of October 1996 was the 60th anniversary of the murder of
Ramiro Ledesma at the hands of the Reds. I don't really know a lot
about Ledesma except that he was the National Syndicalist who set
up the J.O.N.S. which later joined the Falange Español to form the
F.E. de J.O.N.S. On the 29/10/1936 the Reds who held him prisoner
came to take him out and shoot him. Ledesma boldly informed them that
he would not let insignificant scum decide the time and place of his
death. He then attacked them with such ferocity that the Reds had
to kill him on the spot!
One group of Nationalists in Madrid said they would not go to his
grave (a common grave for the victims of the Reds in Aravaca, at the
side of the cemetery) as they could not get the key! At about 10 a.m.
Comrades from Britain and Poland climbed over the cemetery wall, lit
candles, left a wreath, prayed and then shouted
"Ramiro Ledesma .
. . ¡Presente!"
We then travelled onto the Valle De Los Caidos, the grave of José
Antonio and then onto Majadahonda where Mota and Marin died. All in
all a thoroughly good day out.
Judging by the flowers, it looked as though some Nationalists had
gone to the grave of Ledesma the weekend before.
