It is intended
that, at the end of the workshop, participants will:

the advantages of tackling discipline problems sooner rather than later
understand and be able to use a frame work for "having a word"
be able to exercise reasonable control over appropriate behaviour in
the workplace
have a basic understanding of the following terms

five potentially fair reasons for dismissal
appreciate the difference between conduct and capability issues.
recognise the serious difficulties involved in effecting capability

know what "acting reasonably" implies

to conduct a fair disciplinary hearing
be able to prepare an outline script for the act of dismissal

to act where appropriate and assess accurately when further advice is

Attendance
management - learning outcomes
It is intended
that, at the end of the workshop, participants will:
take ownership
of absence problems and act responsibly
Create a working environment where responsible attitudes to business
needs are respected
be able
to tackle minor absence problems by "nipping them in the bud"
be able to handle a telephone conversation where an employee telephones
in with an absence reason.
be able
to carry out a "return to work" interview, informally but
effectively
respond
appropriately to absence generally, taking account of frequency, extent
and circumstances
appreciate
the importance of keeping sufficient records
appreciate the implications of current legislation, including disability
discrimination, in relation to attendance management
be able to explain the potentially fair reasons for dismissal and be
able to distinguish between capability and conduct, and hence between
disciplinary and ill-health issues
recognise the relevance of medical evidence
know where to find suitable sources of reference to assist with difficult
issues arising on future occasions
