Formed on 18 January 2000, the Pacific Northwest Clematis Society was founded in Portland, Oregon with the aim of supporting and extending the use and enjoyment of clematis in Northwest gardens in the U.S. and Canada. The first President was Brewster Rogerson. With an initial membership of nearly seventy members, living and gardening in the region stretching from Northern California to British Columbia, it has gone from strength to strength.
It holds and participates in a number of events each year, including illustrated talks by members and visitors, trips to gardens and nurseries in the region, and a periodic newsletter.
In June 2001 the Society hosted the first visit to the USA of the International Clematis Society, when we held our Annual Meeting and International Conference in Portland.
