From Sabatier, walk for miles, past the monastery, by the river and into the hills, seeing nobody but the natural beauty and flora and fauna of the area: take a picnic and laze by the river with a good book from the library. 23 species of butterfly were counted here during June and July and the nightingales will serenade you through the nights of late Spring. Nîmes, Montpellier, Avignon, Arles and the Pont du Gard are within easy reach. |
| Accommodations: Bed and breakfast accommodations are offered from September to May, the house being let in its entirety for June, July and August - B&B accommodation for four people plus baby. Both bedrooms are furnished with a well chosen melange of new and old furniture - there is plenty of hanging and drawer space. Bedroom 1 with double bed with private walk-in shower and separate toilet Bedroom 2 with two single beds: bathroom with bath, shower and separate toilet shared with hosts A childrens’ playhouse at the bottom of the garden helps make this place a haven for all the family. Access to washing machine on request. The house sits in one hectare (about 2.5 acres) of natural woodland and superb, tranquil terraced gardens with magnificent views over the surrounding countryside. Swim in the pool or sit and read your book in the hammock under the pergola. Outside the
house, new terraces have been formed - these are mainly lawns with many
different fruit trees: figs, apricots, mulberries, plums, crab-apples,
cherries, black-currants, vines. There are five parterres with
different vegetation and a woodland of holm oaks which approaches the
side of the house.

Anduze is a thriving market town with several restaurants and cafes and two supermarkets; market day is Thursday and there is also a flea market on Sunday: a steam railway that will take you up to St. Jean du Gard. Hire a bike in town or follow in the footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson into the Cévennes National Park on a donkey. Visit the giant grottos or the Bambouseraie park (the biggest collection of bamboos in Europe). Other visits: Uzès has its reowned market on Saturday: Mount Aigoual and its observatory: Sommieres, Sauve and Quissac; the Camargue with the wild horses and flamingos: visit the Mediterranean coast, beaches and small fishing ports; canoeing, rafting, horse riding are all available locally. The house is managed by an English speaking guardian. Open all year. . |
