Kidd Coach

Brian Kidd (Man U) the Leeds United coach (or at least he was this afternoon, he may yet be sold at the Leeds United Jumble Sale...) has becomes England's assistant coach. Brian took over on 22nd following Steve McClaren's departure.

Steve left because he found the dual role with his post as manager to Middlesbrough too difficult. Nevertheless, Brian will continue to coach Leeds United whilst in this role.

World Cup Coin Auction

I'm often asked the value of the 1970 Esso World Cup Coin collection, and I usually reply that the best place to find out is by going to www.ebay.co.uk and checking there. Depending on the condition and completeness of the collection, and the popularity of the auction the week you happen to sell it, it can fetch anywhere between 7 and 27 pounds. Or more ... or less !

Individual coins sometimes sell for a couple of pounds each.

But this week a complete special edition bronze version of the collection went on sale. It seems that this was a limited presentation edition made by the Franklin Mint for Esso, in which the coins are made out of solid bronze. This collectors' edition sold for a staggering 135 pounds ! Now that's more like it !

Clough Operation

Brian Clough (Derby County manager) has under gone a liver transplant in a 10 hour operation at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. Consultant, Derek Manas said that without the operation, Brian would have had just two months to live. The liver, which was diseased through excessive alcohol use, also had a cancerous growth. Brian is reportedly doing well and may even be home in a week.

Speaking on Radio Five, John McGovern (Derby County) said that he spoke to Brian only a few weeks ago, and knew nothing then of how ill Brian was. At that time he was as sharp as ever. Reportedly, Brian is already making his presence known to the hospital staff !
