| Bob 70-71 | July 2000 NewsThis is the latest news of all the players who appeared in the 1970-71 FKS Publishers Ltd Wonderful World of Soccer Stars Album 26 July 2000 Coates Interview The Burnley Archive site has added an excellent interview with Ralph Coates (Burnley) which covers his career there, and is well worth a read. See Ralph Coates. 19 July 2000 George Best Has An Alcoholic Beverage There that dosen't quite repeat, 'The Sun' newspaper's OTT coverage of the same story. It happened after a domestic dispute with his wife, Alex, apparantly. The paper has begun a campaign along the lines of 'Landlord - Don't Serve This Man'. The words 'sanctimonious claptrap' comes to mind. Don't worry I'm not going to keep reporting every lapse, and re-pledge, or I'll need to buy more webspace ... 17 July 2000 Pop for Youth Team's Kidd My team, Leeds United, must know about this webpage, because out of the blue they have taken on their third 'World of Soccer Stars' player, the venerable Bryan 'Pop' Robson (Newcastle United), who scored over two hundred goals for teams including West Ham United, Sunderland and Carlisle United. Bryan's been taken on to help out Brian Kidd (Manchester United) with the youth team coach. Eddie Gray, the assistant manager completes the unlikely triumvirate. See Leeds United FMC - The Official Web Site Highcremation It looks very much as if Highbury, Arsenal's famous ground in 1970 is to be sold off to make flats. Arsenal are keen to get a much bigger stadium that will compete with Manchester United's Old Trafford. However, it seems that as part of the ground is a listed buiding and thus cannot be knocked down, which is good news for anyone who wants to actually live in Arsenal's sacred shrine. The football pitch may also have to be preserved because over 100 people have had their ashes scattered there. I hope the future residents' wheely bins will carry the legend 'No Hot Ashes'. See Football365 World Cup Franz Well of course it's old news now, but thanks to the quirky way that these pages get an update, I haven't yet reported that it was Germany that won the World Cup bid for the holding the Finals in the year 2006. 'World of Soccer Star' hero, Franz Beckenbauer (Star Players of Mexico 1970) was at the ceremony for Germany on the day of the announcement (see above). In typical style of U.K. terminal bad losing the media here seemed to miss the fact that this was a symbolic triumph of how the Eastern World has peacefully reunited with the West in the reunification of Germany. Instead the nation's heart went out to South Africa who were felt to have been robbed by a decidedly dodgery New Zealander who abstained following claims of harassment. See BBC SPORT 2006 WORLD CUP DECISION Germany win World Cup vote - which is generating the picture. More Old News With World Cup Stars Involved. Descriptive title, huh? Well surfing around I saw this report of a meal held back in December 1999 which included Martin Peters (Spurs), as well as Stewart Houston(Chelsea squad)and David Pleat (Peterborough). 6 July 2000 Royle Contract Joe Royle (Everton) has been rewarded for returning Manchester City to the Premiership but being given a four year contract. Reports speculate it is makes him one of the bestpaid managers in the country. Well done Joe ! World Cup Bobby Today is finally the day that the location for the 2006 World Cup is chosen - the result should be known by 1 pm. Sir Bobby Charlton has been campaigning hard for England, but the hooliganism by so-called 'English fans' at Euro 2000, probably ended any realistic hope of success. At Football365 and Football365 Sir Bobby still talks with optimism, however, South Africa are looking to be favourites with Germany close behind. There is a feeling that the African continent should host its first ever World Cup Finals, and South Africa have put in a very strong bid. Moore's Medals The following story appears at Football365 WEST HAM BUY MOORE'S MEDALS - Items To Be Housed At Upton Park FOOTBALLING legend Bobby
Moore's
collection of medals and trophies have been bought by his
former team West Ham United. Some 79 items once belonging
to the late soccer hero will be housed at the team's
museum at Upton Park. The collection, bought from
Christie's auction house, includes medals, international
caps and trophies, with the most spectacular article
being the gold medal presented to Moore by the Queen when
he captained England's 1966 World Cup win against West
Germany. 5 July 2000 Take a Seat FOOTBALL MEMORABILIA have 1966 (that is 1,966) Wembley seats available at a mere 346-00 pounds (plus package and posting) each, signed by Sir Geoff Hurst (West Ham United). His right hand must now be out of action having signed that lot. Seats are available at cheaper prices without Geoff's personal touch. Meanwhile, West Ham's official site offers you the chance to win one of the unsigned ones at West Ham United FC - The Official Web Site (The picture is coming from FOOTBALL MEMORABILIA) Harry Quotes The apparantly traditional end of year interview with Harry Redknapp (West Ham United) by the West Ham United fanzine 'Over Land and Sea' is offered at Interview , though you have to buy the magazine to get the whole story ! Not a Second Time Will he? Won't he ? Would he ? Could he ? The Terry-Venables-for-England-Coach debate has continued in pubs and clubs up and down the country since England's poor showing at Euro 2000. This has been fuelled by various polls and polemic from the tabloids. Well Terry (QPR) has now ruled himself out of such speculation, probably so Terry can at least look Kevin Keegan in the eye when the next ITV expert panal reconvenes.
