Perryman Sacked !
Steve
Perryman (Tottenham Hotspur) has been sackerd by Kashiwa
Reysol, The Japan Times Online reports ...
Kashiwa
Reysol on Thursday dismissed its English manager
Steve Perryman after a string of poor results in the
first stage of the J. League Division One.
His assistant coach Tomoyoshi Ikeya, 40, will take
charge of the team for the remaining two rounds in
the stage. A new manager, from Brazil, is expected to
take over from the start of the second stage as a
Kashiwa official is currently negotiating with the
potential candidate in Brazil. The first stage ends
on Aug. 17 and the second stage will begin on Aug. 31
Reysol has fired its manager twice within 13 months,
having fired Perryman's predecessor Akira Nishino
(now Gamba Osaka manager). Perryman, 50, took over
from Nishino in July last year and helped Reysol
finish seventh in the 16-team division in the second
stage
This season, Reysol posted four wins against three
loses before the World Cup. But since the break, the
team has been hampered by injuries and fatigue to its
World Cup players and has suffered six consecutive
defeats, tying the club's worst losing streak. Reysol
is currently placed 12th in the standings
"We feel sorry for putting all the
responsibility on him alone. We know we all,
including the players, are responsible (for the poor
results) and there was some bad luck as well,"
said Reysol president Shozaburo Kobayashi.
"But we couldn't see the fighting spirit in our
players' in recent games and we fear that we may lose
our sponsors and fans if the players continue like
that. A new manager hopefully can bring the fighting
spirit back into our squad."
Perryman said it was the first time that he had been
asked to leave a club and also to have lost in six
straight matches in his coaching career. "The
last six games were difficult. Whatever the reason
was things didn't happen for us and the team has lost
confidence," he said.
"I understand the club's position and they would
like to change the flow of the team (by this
decision). I thank our players and staff. I wish them
more luck in their remaining games so that they can
change," said Perryman.
"I'm proud to have been in charge of this team
over the year. I've had many experiences, mostly good
ones," the former Tottenham Hotspur player and
assistant manager said. "My confidence is not
affected (by this). I really like working in Japan
with Japanese players and I really like the Japanese
fans. So, hopefully I will be back here one
day."
