As the high profile fan and commedian Frank Skinner has often reminded us, this was a golden era for the club. They were F.A.Cup winners in 1968, League Cup winners in 1966, and runners-up in 1967 and 1970. Jeff Astle was King, Villa were in the Third Division and all was right with the World.

Indeed, West Brom were founder members of the Football League and remained top division regulars until 1986. Their drop to the old Division Three in 1991-92 was hard to believe - and it was a hard and difficult slog, but at last, in 2002-2003 West Brom finally had their first season in the F.A. Premiership. Albeit for just one season, though subsequently they did add two more in 2004-05 and 2005-06. Currently the club are back down in the Championship again.

Asa Harford was almost a Leeds United player, 'Shoot' even did a picture of him as a Leeds player, but he failed a medical for a hole in the heart ... and went on to join the elite 700+ Club (click to see ).

Johnny Giles (1975-77,& 1984-85) famously got his first managerial post at West Brom - and NOT Leeds Utd where he was the players' choice. Other players in the FKS World of Soccer Stars 70-71 stickers book (on which this site was originally based) to manger the club are : - Ron Atkinson (Oxford Utd), Bobby Gould (Wolves) and Denis Smith (Stoke City)
