Mike Trebilcock with Everton wins the 1966 FA Cup

'The heroes parade Gordon West, Derek Temple, Mike Trebilcock, Colin Harvey, Alex Young and manager Harry Catterick'

Mike is the two goal hero of the 1966 FA Cup final, when he stood in for the regular Everton striker, Fred Pickering. Everton won the match 3-2 against Sheffield Wednesday.

Mike had played in the semi-final, but Fred - Everton's leading goalscorer - had returned for three matches. Everton manager Harry Catterick had a big decision to make as he did not believe Fred was fit yet, and substitutions were not allowed in the FA Cup in '66. He opted for Mike, who at this time, had played just 8 matches and scored 2 goals for Everton.

But Mike did the business, and the rest, as they say, is history.

A couple of months later in the World Cup Final at Wembly, Alf Ramsey had to choose between injured experienced star, Jimmy Greaves, and fully fit newcomer, Geoff Hurst ! ... Who says history never repeats !
