100 Greatest World Cup Moments Channel 4 18th May 2002 Bob Rating: BBBB With the World Cup approaching, the telly's gone Football Crazy. And tonight there was 2 hours of football bliss thanks to Channel 4's regular '100 Greatest' series. The public was asked to vote on World Cup great moments and the programme reviewed the outcome with a bit of added background and comments made by the players today. We saw modern interviews with Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Charlton, Jack Charlton, Norman Hunter, Emlyn Hughes, Peter Bonetti, Pat Jennings, and Archie Gemmill. Also, filmed in February there was great moment, as just a month before his sad death Kenneth Wolstenholme repeated on camera one final time his famous line 'They think it's all over it is now !' Bob Mortimer provided the links and it was all smoothly done. I'm not entirely sure why the World Cup did not exist before 1958 - I suspect the public were not granted the intelligence of being trusted to vote for anything before then. And certainly the Top 3 vote did have a contemporary bias, including one game that didn't even occur in the Finals - which is a bit of a cheat in my book. Nevertheless the 1970 competition did have 4 entries in the Top Fifteen, which can't be bad. Catch it on the rerun, it's a great evening of popular football history fun. I swear you cannot watch it without adding your own memories of what you were doing that day. Here's the full list of 1970 nominations, followed by the final Top 100 with Bob 70-71 Pages interest highlighted. Why not Choose your own Top Mexico '70 Moment at Quizlet ?
