| Bob 70-71 | August 2001 NewsNews of other stars from the 1970-71 ... Rothmans Update This season's Rothmans Football Yearbook 2001-2002 has highlighted some changes to players this site has not passed on up to now ... Eric Winstanley (Barnsley) has moved on as First Team Coach to Barnsley. Someone at Barnsley's Official site said he had 'left their employment in May (2001)'. Ooer, what did he do to upset them after 30 odd years ?? Mel Machin (Gillingham) is no longer Bournemouth's manager, but is now listed as the 'Director of Football'. It's always impossible to tell if this a promotion or a kick upstairs, of course. Gordon McQueen (St Mirren) left Middlesbrough as their coach on 14 June 2001. John Gorman (Celtic) On 2nd April 2001 John moved along with Glenn Hoddle from Southampton to Tottenham Hotspur to be assistant manager. This meant David Pleat (Peterborough) reverted back to Director of Football having taken over as caretaker manager when George Graham was sacked. Stewart Houston (Chelsea squad) Possibly related to this I see that Stewart is no longer in a coaching role at Tottenham Hotspur, but I'm not sure when he left. Roy Evans (Liverpool squad) is now the Director of Football at Swindon Town. Not reported in Rothmans as it occured too recently, but the club's offical website has given him his own column already ! See Swindon Town Football Club - Roy Evans Record Ends ! Sven-Göran Eriksson's (Karlskoga) record breaking run of his first six games ever as England manager without defeat failed to be stretched to seven games, following a 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands. The match was a friendly in preparation for the World Cup qualifiers due in early September. The positive thinkers amongst us will see this as a good way of ditching the burdon of a record breaking run prior to such an important game ... others may just go, 'help!!!!' See BBC SPORT FOOTBALL Eriksson
