| Bob 70-71 | September 2000Follow the news of the offspring of the class of 70-71 !See Sons and Daughters28 SeptemberGabby's New Site ITV have re-launched their website (see ITV-football) which features a page for 'On the Ball' co-hosted by Terry's (Leeds United squad) daughter, Gabby Yorath. See OTB The Show Gabby's Guide. Whilst talking of Gabby, I also came across the following Gabby page at Thing's Things Gabby Yorath. Ferguson Scores Sir Alex's son, Darren completed yet another of the season's less reported comebacks. Wrexham were 1-0 down to Bournemouth from the 5th minute in their Division Two away fixture. Morrell equalised in the 87th minute, and Darren scored the winner a minute later! It took Wrexham one place above Bournemouth to 16th in the League. See Bournemouth (Away) 26 SeptemberShilton scores - no.2 For the second time this month I'm reporting Sam Shilton scoring, this time in a Division Three away match to Mansfield. Sam's goal was the 1-1 equaliser in time added on for injuries at the end of the first half. But Hartlepool United went on to lose the tie 4-3. See The Official Hartlepool United Football Club Owen Scores - No.7! The Premiership's leading goalscorer Michael Owen was on target again. This time Michael scored the 34th minute equaliser in a 1-1 home draw against Sunderland in the Premiership. See Official Liverpool FC Website - Match Summary 2000-01 - Sunderland (Premier League - H) - 23.09.00 Lampard Scores - A Goal. Yes, Frank junior has opened his goalscoring account with West Ham United this injury hit season in what was only his 4th game so far. In a convincing 3-0 away victory against Coventry City in the Premiership, naughty film maker, Frank, fittingly scored in the 69th minute to complete the Hammers emphatic victory. See West Ham United FC and for Frank's reaction see West Ham United FC - The Official Web Site 20 SeptemberClough Scores Nigel Clough, Brian's son (Derby County manager), is the player-manager of the Doctor Martin Premier League side Burton Albion and has scored in two recent games on the trot. Nigel got the third in a 3-1 away victory over Margate, and sent his side top of the League when he scored against Welling United in the next game. The top placing lasted only a minute, however, as Welling equalised almost immediately in the 1-1 home draw !!! See B r e w e r s N e t - News and Reports Archive - September 2000 It seems that the former England international, Nigel has significantly raised the profile of Burton Albion since becoming the manager there. The excellent independent site Brewers Net even devote a page of references to our Nige which is well worth a read at BrewersNet...MediaWatch. This site is also providing the picture above. Incidentally, in the Margate match, Nigel was attacked by the Margate manager, Chris Kinnear (See CHRIS KINNEAR). Surely this is Joe's brother (Tottenham Hotspur squad) ?! If you know for a fact mail me and I'll include him on the Sons and Daughters page. Shilton Scores That headline still looks odd to those of us who know Sam's father, Peter, who was England's number one goalkeeper. The 60th minute goal took Hartlepool United to a 2-0 lead in a home game against Macclesfield Town in Division 3. But it is the season of comebacks and the final score was 2-2. See The Official Hartlepool United Football Club 10 SeptemberOwen Scores - of course ! Another game, another goal, for Terry Owen (Bradford City)'s famous offspring. This time Michael got the opening goal in a 3-2 thriller at home to Manchester City in the Premiership. Scored in the 11th minute, Liverpool went 2 up, before being pulled back to 2-2 with only 11 minutes to go. It's been a season of comebacks so far, but Liverpool pulled ahead with the winner, and are now fourth in the table. When a top player is on form, a top player is on form. And Michael Owen is proving himself to be very much at the top and very much on form, with a 3 blast last night, as he helped Liverpool to a first-half inspired 3-1 victory at home to Aston Villa. Coming in the 5th, 12th and 33rd minutes, the Villa manager John Gregory was left to reflect that at least his side won the second half 1-0 ! Save that philosophy for the Leeds match too, John ... See Official Liverpool FC Website - Match Summary 2000-01 - Aston Villa (Premier League - H) - 06.09.00 3 SeptemberOwen Scores - for England ! Against far too many of our expectations, England managed a 1-1 draw last night against the World and European Champions France, and on their own territory, too ! The more cynical might point out that the bulk of the French defence had been substituted off before England pulled back Petit's goal ... but on the bright side, it was England's future hope, Michael Owen who got the England goal. See BBC SPORT FOOTBALL Owen's England magic and BBC SPORT FOOTBALL Keegan's Paris delight Owen Scores - for Liverpool ! Michael Owen scored the 1st and 3rd goals in the 23rd and 64th minutes to give Liverpool a dream 3-0 lead away to Southampton. But as all good newspaper reports will have said - this turned to a nightmare when 3 goals in the final 17 minutes pulled the game level giving Glen Hoddle's side a very well earned point ! See Official Liverpool FC Website - Match Summary 2000-01 - Southampton (Premier League - A) - 26.08.00 Royle Family In the Unibond League 1st Division, Ashton United beat Guiseley 2-1 in the opening games of the season. This only came to my attention because Ashton's first goal was scored by none other than Darren Royle, who it turns out is Joe Royle's (Everton ) son !! I've added Darren to the Sons and Daughter's page. Er ... Jordan Family Yes, whilst on the subject, another son has turned up in the League which hadn't come to my attention before. Ex-Leeds and Manchester United striker, Joe Jordan (Morton) has a son Andrew playing for Bristol City, it seems. Cooper Scores And talking of ex-Leeds players sons, Hednesford won their Nationwide Conference home match against Northwich Victoria this Saturday, yet they were 1-0 down after 54 minutes play. So what ? Well, that was when Mark Cooper - Terry Cooper's (Leeds United) son - scored the first of the comeback goals. He made it 2-1 a minute later, and completed his hatrick making the score 5-1 with a penalty in the 70th minute. The team went on to win 7-1 !!! See Cooper hatrick Ferguson Scores And to complete the picture, Alex's son, Darren scored the only goal in an away win for Wrexham v Mansfield Town in the League Cup on 22 August. The Holsgroves In a bid to take over the Sons and Daughters pages, John Holsgrove (Wolverhampton Wanderers) has spawned his third football playing son. Paul was at Hibernean last year before moving to Darlington in May. Lee was at Wycombe Wanderers, but was released by them at the end of last season, and has moved to the Ryman Premiership side Aldershot (see Aldershot Town FC - The Official Website of The Shots). And now, Peter has just signed on for Lee's old club Wycombe Wanderers to complete the happy footballing family.(See Wycombe Wanderers FC Player Profiles 2000-2001).
