Gabby
Logan
Gabby Logan - daughter of Terry
Yorath (LeedsUnited) - is interviewed in the
Saturday Times Magazine, 12 June 2004. It seems that
Gabby will become the main presenter of football
programmes on ITV taking over from Des Lynam, now
that the channel has lost it's right to the showing
of the Premiership highlights on a Saturday night.
Louise
Louise
Redknapp - daughter-in-law of Harry
Redknapp - is on the cover of FHM for June
2004, which has a vote for a decade of FHM women,
finding out where exactly she finished in the list,
would have meant having to buy the magazine, but,
well, finances are tight this month... See www.fhm.com
Louise
along with hubby, Jamie Redknapp was also on the cover of
the 18 May 2004, no. 816 edition of Hello !. This
was to highlight an 8 page Louise and Jamie feature
in which they announce, 'the arrival of the
longed-foe baby they feared they could never have. So
that's what Jamie was up to on his long lay-off with
injury this last season just gone... Massive congrats
to the couple, from Bob's 70-71 Pages.

28 May
2004 www.bucksfreepress.co.uk reports that Darren was a guest of
honour at this season's FA Cup Final for being the
player of the first round.
Here is the
article, including an interview, which appears at: Currie Looks To Move Abroad (from Bucks
Free Press)
DARREN Currie is
chasing a move to the Continent after leaving
Wanderers by mutual consent this summer.
The midfield
conjuror, who won a place in the FA's first ever Team
of the FA Cup, is hoping that his box of tricks will
be appreciated more on the Continent after Blues boss
Tony Adams said he was surplus to requirements at
Adams Park.
Currie said: "I
would like to play abroad. I think my skills would be
better suited over there."
Currie has now put
together a video showcase of his talents which his
agent is taking around the Continent in a bid to
secure his client a dream move.
The 29-year-old
nephew of former Leeds and Sheffield United showman
Tony Currie says he will turn his back on his
homeland with Portugal a possible destination.
Currie was given the
five star treatment at last Saturday's FA Cup Final
between Manchester United and Millwall after being
crowned the Player of the First Round following his
two goal salvo in the 4-1 win over Swindon Town.
He joined the likes
of Liverpool's Bruno Cheyrou and Arsenal stars
Antonio Reyes and Freddie Ljunberg in the FA's
inaugural Team of the FA Cup and was given the red
carpet experience at Cardiff as a guest at the
Millennium Stadium.
He was wined and
dined and got to hold the famous trophy itself while
mingling with legends such as Sir Geoff Hurst, Paddy
Crerand and Trevor Brooking.
Currie said:
"It's a day I will never forget. We have been
given first class treatment and I couldn't have asked
for any more."
But while the FA
showed their appreciation of Currie's skills, he has
become disillusioned with a section of Wanderers fans
who have criticised him this season.
He said: "This
has been my best season since being a pro. I've
scored nine goals in a team that has been relegated.
I've made a lot of other goals and I was runner-up in
the Player of the Year award. I think I have done my
job.
"Yet I've read
on the internet that I'm a luxury, that I don't work
for the team.
"It is true
that I have been relegated four times in my career
but when I got relegated with Shrewsbury I won the
Player of the Year, I was only at Plymouth for around
six games when they went down, and when Barnet were
relegated I was the top goalscorer.
"If I was a
snooker player I could accept that it is all my fault
because it is one person against another but this is
a team game.
"When I first
came here the fans loved me because of my skills.
They liked what I could do, but now I have been here
for some time some of them only seem to notice that I
haven't got any pace, and I've always been like that.
He said: "It's
like taking a bird out. You go out with her for two
years and you take her to the best restaurants and
treat her to the best things all the time.
"When you first
do it, it is all lovely and she thinks you are
wonderful but then she gets used to it because you do
all it the time."
Now Currie is hoping
to escape his snipers by moving to mainland Europe.
He said: "I
would love to go abroad. It is my style of football
they appreciate technique and being two-footed much
more over there than they do in England."
1 August 2004: Signs
for Brighton and Hove Albion in the Championship.
7 August 2004: Debuts

1 May
2004 Frank plays in the UEFA Champions
League semi-final second leg at home against Monaco.
Frank scores in the 44th minute to give Chelsea a
lead 2-0 lead at half -time. This also gave Chelsea
the advantage on aggregate as they led by the away
goals rule. But Monaco came back to draw 2-2 and the
tie was lost 5-3 on aggregate. This is the furthest
Chelsea have ever been in Europe's top club
competition.
15 May
2004 Chelsea end the season with a 1-0 home
victory against Leeds United and Frank is everpresent
in the Legaue. Indeed all season he missed only one
League Cup tie, and thus played a season total of 58
matches for Chelsea with 15 goals. At this time he
had also played another 6 England matches. By the end
of July Frank played a further 6 England games giving
him a season total of 70 matches !!!
Sainsbury's During Euro 2004
Frank appeared with his father, Frank
Lampard, in
television adverts for the supermarket Sainsbury's,
who had launched a coin series that included Frank
junior and fellow Next Generation star, Michael Owen.
The coins match exactly the famous Seventies coins
produced by Esso, and indeed a coin was given for
free for customers at the Sainsbury's petrol pumps.
Just like the
70s series the minted squad did not match the chosen
squad. Hence, the third Next Generation star to go to
Euro 2004 with England, Ian Walker, did not appear,
as the third goalkeeper coin was given to Chris
Kirkland.
www.sainsburys.co.uk have now dropped thier football
coins link.
1 June
2004 Frank plays for England in a friendly
versus Japan at the City of Manchester Stadium as
England prepare for Euro 2004. He plays the first 82
minutes and he leaves the game at 1-1, which was the
final score. It is his 18th cap.
5 June
2004 Frank scores the opening goal in
England's second preparation friendly for Euro 2004,
against Iceland at the City of Manchester Stadium. He
plays the first 49 minutes and he leaves the game at
3-1, and it finished 6-1. His goal was in the 25 th
minute, and was his 2nd goal in 19 internationals.
13 June
2004 England's start to the Euro 2004
campaign looks to be perfect when Frank scores in the
38th minute in their opening match against France in
Lisbon. As every Englishman will tell you, the lead
was maintained until the 91st minute, when two injury
time goals by Zidane, gave the French a 2-1 victory.
Frank played the full 90 ... er ... 93 minutes for
his 20th cap. This is his third goal, and he has
scored in successive internationals.
17 June
2004 England's second match of the campaign
shot Wayne Ronney to stardom as he scores 2 in the
3-0 victory against Swizerland in Coimbra. This is
Frank's 21st cap and again plays the whole match.
21 June
2004 The final group match in Euro 2004 sees
England qualify in second place with a 4-2 win
against Croatia in Lisbon. In truth, it took Frank's
79th minute goal to convince the English fans that
the team was actually going to win, even though they
had led since half-time. It was the final goal of the
game, as England even safely negotiated injury time !
Frank was substituted for the first time of the
tournament, in the 84th minute. It was his 2nd goal
of the competition, his 4th for England, and was his
22 cap.
24 June
2004 Frank almost became a national hero,
when his 115th minute goal level the scores at 2-2 in
the second half of extra time, as England played the
host nation, Portugal in Lisbon in the
quarter-final.. At least his goal helped to put right
the injustice England felt at having a goal
disallowed at 1-1 in injury time in the first 90
minutes.
The match went
to penalties, which opened with David Beckham missing
for England. Frank took England's third penalty,
which he scored. Portugal's Rui Costa then missed
Portugal's third penalty making it all square at this
point. After the initial 5 penalties it was 4-4 and
sudden death began. At 5-5 Vassell missed for
England, and goalkeeper, Ricardo scored for Portugal,
and England 's Euro 2004 campaign ended.
Portugal went
on to lose to Greece 1-0 in the Final, making one of
the biggest upsets in European football.
Frank has now
played 23 games for England and scored 5 goals. For a
second time he has scored in successive matches. His
3 tourrnament goals made him the equal 5th highest
scorer, though he was still second highest English
scorer behind Wayne Rooney, who scored 4.
18
August, 2004
Frank plays the
first 74 minutes of England's 3-0 victory versus
Ukraine. The match was a friendly played at St James'
Park in Newcastle. The score was 3-0 when Frank left
the pitch. It is Frank's 24th match, he has scored 5
goals for England.

2004 Banned from the game Sweden draw with

Adverts.
With the Euro 2004 dominating media coverage, and
Michael being one of England's most high profile
players, adverts featuring have dominated television
and magazines in recent months.
The main
ones have been for Persil
washing powder where an actor playing a very
young Michael is shown constantly getting dirty
and ends with Michael holding the product and
saying 'Thanks Mum' or ome such phrase.
Next up is Lucozade
Sport. There is a rather cool tough
hitting television advert with a mean looking
Michael, and newspaper / magazine campaign where
you can get a free 'Michael Owen minute'. It is
texted to you and if Michael scores in it you can
win money. Of course he only scored once at Euro
2004 in the end, so the prize must have been
higher than lower.
Umbro
continue to use Michael in adverts for the
England kit. The more recent campaign is for the
X-static shirt in which Michael's eyes are very
spooky robotic style. He is joined by David James
and John Terry. See www.umbro.com.
Finally -
well of those I've spotted - there is another, in
magazines, where Micahel is crossing the Abbey
Road zebra crossing a lá the Beatles'
'Abbey Road' album cover. The advert is for Reebok's
Liverpool kit.
See www.liverpoolfc.tv/newkit/images/header.jpg for Reebok's advert
and Abbey Road for the original.
Oh one last
thing, Michael is on one of the Sainsbury coins -
for which see Frank Lampard
Front
Covers. OK, I'll admit I completely lost
track of the magazines on which Michael appeared on
the front cover over the Euro 2004 period. Certainly
he was the main player (of 3) on the front of the
July 2004 edition (no 119) of FourFourTwo,
and I believe, Shoot Monthly at the same
time.
He was also one
of the main players on the front of Match !
on 5 June 2004 and 12 June 2004
15 May
2004 Liverpool end the season with a 1-1
home draw against Newcastle United. Although he
scores in the match , Michael's 16 goals makes him
just equal 8th in the list of Premiership scorers,
and with 20 goals he is just 11th in the list of
Premiership highest scorers in all competitions
(including Jon Stead, who played for Huddersfield
Town for much of the season).
Generally it is
believed Michael had an average season, and Liverpool
a poor one by their standards.
1 June
2004 Michael plays for England in a friendly
versus Japan at the City of Manchester Stadium as
England prepare for Euro 2004. He plays the first 77
minutes and scores in the 22nd minute to make it 1-0.
He leaves the game at 1-1, which was the final score.
It is his 55th capand is his 25th goal - which now
pulls him ahead of Geoff Hurst as 11th on the list of
England's all time highest goalscorers.
5 June
2004 Michael plays the first 53 minutes of
England's second preparation friendly for Euro 2004,
against Iceland at the City of Manchester Stadium. He
leaves the game at 3-1, and it finished 6-1. It is
Michael's 56th cap.
13 June
2004 England's start to the Euro 2004
campaign looks to be perfect when Frank Lampard
scores in the 38th minute in their opening match
against France in Lisbon. As every Englishman will
tell you, the lead was maintained until the 91st
minute, when two injury time goals by Zidane, gave
the French a 2-1 victory. Michael was substituted in
the 69th minute, it was his 57th cap.
17 June
2004 England's second match of the campaign
shot Wayne Ronney to stardom as he scores 2 in the
3-0 victory against Swizerland in Coimbra. Michael
came off after 72 minutes when the score was just
1-0. This is Michael's 58th cap.
21 June
2004 The final group match in Euro 2004 sees
England qualify in second place with a 4-2 win
against Croatia in Lisbon. In truth, it took Frank
Lampard's 79th minute goal to convince the English
fans that the team was actually going to win, even
though they had led since half-time.
It was the
final goal of the game, as England even safely
negotiated injury time ! Michael played the whole
game for the first time of the tournament.. It was
his 59th cap. This is only the third time in his
England career that he has gone 4 games without a
goal - he has never gone 5 games.
24 June
2004 Michael almost became a national hero,
when his 3rd minute goal gave England a 1-0 lead that
they held on to for 80 more agonising minutes, as
England played the host nation, Portugal in Lisbon in
the quarter-final. Sadly Portugal equalised, and
England had to suffer an injury time disallowed goal.
After extra
time the scores had moved on to 2-2, thanks to a late
equaliser by Frank Lampard, so the match went into
penalties.
David Beckham
opened with a miss for England, but Michael scored
the second to make it 1-1 with the Porugese still to
take their second penalty. Portugal's Rui Costa
missed Portugal's third penalty making it all square
at 3-3. After the initial 5 penalties it was 4-4 and
sudden death began. At 5-5 Vassell missed for
England, and goalkeeper, Ricardo scored for Portugal,
and England 's Euro 2004 campaign ended.
Portugal went
on to lose to Greece 1-0 in the Final, making one of
the biggest upsets in European football.
Michael has now
played 60 games for England and scored 26 goals,
which finally takes him into the Top Ten of English
Highest goalscorers, equal with Bryan Robson. See England
Highest Scorers.
Every goal now
would lift Michael up the list until he reached 31
goals, which would make him no.4 in his own right.
After that there is a big gap to Jimmy Greaves with
44, Grry Linekar on 48 and top placed Sir Bobby
Charlton on 49, but he must be well poised to become
England's first scorer of 50 goals baring in mind he
is still only 24.
18
August, 2004
Michael scores
the second goal in the 50th minute of England's 3-0
victory versus Ukraine. The match was a friendly
played at St James' Park in Newcastle. Michael played
all 90 minutes. It is Michael's 61st match, and his
26th goal for England. Michael is now the equal ninth
highest goalscorer for England with David Platt, see England

15 May
2004 Leicester City almost pull off the
shock of the season by holding on to a 1-0 lead till
half time away to Champions Arsenal. The match was
meaningless for Divisional placings, (unless you
consider that Leicester, already relegated, did need
to try and avoid being bottom. But the game had a
higher profile as Arsenal were attempting to go a
whole season undefeated. Ultimately Arsenal did win
2-1, and are now aiming to beat the record of 42
unbeaten top division matches - they are on 40.
Ian was
Leicester City's most played player in the season. He
missed just the one game, a Premiership match,
because he was sent off at home to Birmingham City.
1 June
2004 Ian's recall to England continues as he
is named in the squad for the Euro 2004 warm up
friendlies. The first of which is the 1-1 draw at the
City of Manchester Stadium against Japan.
Ian was on the
bench as third choice goalkeeper, behind David James
and Paul Robinson. In spite of the large number of
substitutes used, James played the whole 90 minutes.
Ian has been
capped 3 times previously, but his last game was on
17 February 1997 against Italy. He was a Spurs player
at the time of all of his three caps.
5 June
2004 Ian finally wins his 4th cap for
England after a 7 year wait ! It was his first cap as
a Leicester City player. Ian came on for Paul
Robinson in the 62nd minute against Iceland in the
City of Manchester Stadium. It was 4-1 when he came

sorts !

2004 Ian makes it to the 23 man squad that
travels to Portugal for Euro 2004. Ian is praised in
the papers for taking his training seriously though
it is known it is unlikely, as third goalkeeper, that
