Follow the news of the offspring of the class of 70-71 !

See Sons and Daughters

Monthly updates on non-English and Scottish players has stopped as there is now no longer a site I can find that provides the information for free - does anyone else know of a site, if so E-mail me

Other news:

Thomas Sřfting has written to me from Norway:

Does the offspring of players who weren’t active in 70/71 make “The Next Generation”? If so, you can add the following players to the list:

Daniel Talbot (Rushden and Diamonds)– son of Brian Talbot (Ipswich Town).

Steve McMahon jr (Blackpool) – son of Steve McMahon sr.

Scott McNiven (Oxford), David McNiven (Leigh RMI) – sons of David McNiven sr (Leeds, Bradford, Blackpool)

One player who was active in 1970/71 was then future Swedish international Anders Linderoth (Helsingborgs IF), who is currently manager of Hammarby. His son Tobias, himself a Swedish international, is now at Everton.

Thomas later wrote and added a further name to the list.

Gavin Peacock, the former Chelsea, QPR and Newcastle midfielder, is the son of Keith Peacock, who played for Charlton in 70-71.BBC SPORT Charlton sign Peacock

Thanks Thomas, Tobias Linderoth and Daniel Talbot are still playing and have now been included in the bi-monthly updates below.

Louise - Harry Redknapp's daughter-in-law - has a new single out which is part of Asda's Tickled Pink campaign. Profits from the sales of the single 'Pandora's Kiss' and 'Don't Give Up' and go towards Breast Cancer Care. See www.breastcancercare.org.uk The single was released on Positive Records and reached number 5 in the UK charts on its release, and this week (commencing19/10/03) is in its 5th week in the top 75.

Louise with Asda and Breast Cancer Care was also part of a World Record breaking mass simultaneous sing-song on 18 September. Apparantly 101,918 people sang her song 'Don't Give Up' in Asda stores around the country. Ironically Louise herself couldn't make a store herself because she got stuck in traffic, so according to her official website, she joined in on mobile phone. Did that count ? (Hold on - who cares ?)

Kenny Logan - Terry Yorath's (LeedsUnited) son in law - is in Australia right now as part of the Scotland World Cup squad. See IRB RWC 2003 - Kenny Logan. Kenny's wife, Gabby Logan is one of the presenters for ITV1's coverage of the competition.

Ben Cohen is a member of the England squad - who may even be good enough to win. I understand that that Ben is a nephew of England 1966 World Cup winning side.See IRB RWC 2003 - Ben Cohen

Michael's record in 2003-2004:

Season: League played 8 scored 7, UEFA Cup played 1 scored 1,
England - Friendly played 1 scored 1 and European Championship played 2 scored 1.

20 August 2003: Michael plays the first 65 minutes in a home friendly against Croatia at Portman Road in Ipswich. Michael scored in the 51st minute to make it 2-0 to England, which was the score when he left the game. The final score was 3-1, and fellow Next Generation star Frank Lampard scored the third England goal.

This was Michael's 51st cap and he scored his 23rd England goal. Michael has played in all of England's last 19 matches. Michael moves up to equal 12th with Stan Mortensen in the list of Englan's highest goalscorers.

6 September 2003: Michael won his 52nd England cap, when he plays in the European Championships away to Macedonia at Skopje. Michael came off in the 86th minute at which time England were winning 2-1, which was the final score.

9 September 2003: Michael played a rare full 90 minutes for England when he won his 53rd cap against Liechtenstein.

The home tie in this European Championship's qualifier was played at Old Trafford in Manchester. At half time the studio pundits were spitting feathers at the 0-0 scoreline against an opposition England were expected to thump with a cricket score.

But all that was needed was a win, whatever the score, to ensure a Play-Off place for the Finals in 2004. So it was with great relief that Michael scored his 24th goal of his England career soon in the first minute of the second half. Wayne Rooney added a second in the 52nd minute and England sat on the score, job done, and avoiding ban causing bookings.

This was Michael's 21st successive game for England - and the last 8 had all been victories. He now moves up to equal 11th with Geoff Hurst on the list of England's all time highest goalscorers. See England Highest Scorers.

27 September 2003 Match magazine runs an advert for Michael Owen's Speed Shooter, which, 'Measures the might of your kicking power !'. It seems that this gadget is strapped on to your football boot, and as long as you hit it in the right place, will tell you how hard your shot is. The product is copyrighted by OPL and Vivid Imaginations Ltd.

Using the advert it is possible to win one along with 20 Michael Owen Socca Sacs - more on the Socca Sac when I find out ! I'm guessing it's a gym bag with Michael's name on it.They are for sale at Woolworth and Argos, should you feel the need to rush out and them.

Inspired by the above I have now added a page ready for Christmass. Click to see Michael Products

On a similar theme, McDonald's have been giving away England Corinthian Microstars (see www.microstars.co.uk ) free with their Happy Meals. Michael is one of the team of 11 there was to collect.

30 September 2003 Michael is announced at the OPTA player of the month for September 2003. OPTA, the Premiership statisticians that keep an almost intrusive eye on the players performance counting everything from successful passes made to number of times the player spitted -and in which direction, so it is an excellent measure of who truely is the most inform player of the Premiership that month. See Owen wins OPTA Player of the Month

1 October 2003 Michael starts the month as leading goalscorer in the Premiership with 7 goals. He shares the lead with Ruud van Nistelrooy of Man Utd.

11 October 2003: Michael's 21 game sequence of matches played for England comes to an unwanted end when injury forces him out of the crucial European Championship qualifier away to Turkey in Istanbul. England miss out on a 9th successive victory, but the 0-0 result takes them to the Finals in Portugal in 2004.

10 November 2003 Injury again keeps Michael out of the squad for England who are to play a friendly against Denmark.

10 October 2003: According to www.footballnl.com at news, Marc has left NEC and is likely to join non-league de Treffers from Groesbeek.

Once again I am indebted to Jelle Vanhijfte, who filled me in on this information concerning Marc and de Treffers.

Coincidently I had just been reading an interview with Marc Peters in our local papers this week. He never made it at NEC Nijmegen, also had some injuries in that time. Now he's playing for de Treffers indeed. Yesterday (12 October 2003) he gave two assists in de 4-2 win over Be Quick Groningent.

De Treffers are from Groesbeek, which is a small village just outside Nijmegen. There is only 20.000 people living there, but the village contains two Sunday Top Division teams, De Treffers and Achilles'29.
