Poor Frank ....

Chelsea unexpectedly get pipped by Leeds United in the Premiership to finish a barely acceptable 6th.

Frank made the last England squad before the World Cup, but sadly missed out on selection to go on the pre-World Cup Finals tour or, of course, the Finals themselves.

This rounded off a disappointing month in which Frank was a member of the Chelsea side that lost the FA Cup Final 2-0 to Arsenal

Meanwhile on a brighter note I found a new website for Frank at Frank Lampard Online - Homepage

Owen Update

Liverpool finished Premiership runners-up, thus gaining an automatic European Championship League place.

England: Michael naturally makes the squad to play in South Korea Japan 2002 World Cup - Well done Michael.

In May Michael has played in 2 internationals as England acclimatise to South Korea and Japan. Michael was again captain in both, and again played only the first half, as wholesale substitutions were made at half time.

Versus South Korea, Michael's goal on 26 minutes gave the team a half time lead of 1-0, but it finished 1-1. And versus Cameroon, Micheal stayed on till the 49th minute when the score was 1-1, and it ended 2-2.

Adverts

A picture of Michael's Corinthian 'Micro Star' figure in an England shirt leads the latest 'powerpodz' campaign in magazines. The model has been photoed from a curious angle above the model looking down, and has the catch phrase, 'Get into the box, my son'. Er ... ?

Likewise, the Merlin Official England mini stickers are now being given away in Walkers', 'Footballs', 'Quavers' and 'Monster Munch' .The magazine adverts feature four of the stickers in the set of eighty, one of which is our Michael.

Sporties continue to be advertised by Michael with regular TV play.

Match

4 May 2002 edition of 'Match' has an inset of Michael to advertise that its readers voted him into the predicted World Cup squad. It also has a double page poster of Michael in the centre.

11 May 2002 edition of 'Match' has another inset of Michael on the cover and features a four page interview with Michael called 'Michael Owen: Superhero !'. The magazine also includes a 1 page factfile as a member of England World Cup squad.

1 June 2002 edition of 'Match' features Michael on the cove rin an England shirt, with Henrik Larsson of Sweden. This promotes the magazine's World Cup special edition, and includes a two page interview with both players. There's also a competition to win a signed Michael shirt from Umbro

And the rest ...

Dave Beckham has taken most of the limelight of the World Cup publicity, but Michael's image I imagine is on the cover of other magazines, too numerous to keep track of.

On the desk here I see he's fronts "The Times' World Cup Handbook" (29 May 2002) pictured at the 21 May 2002 England match v South Korea. And the Littlewoods Index World Cup supplement catalogue 'Football Fever 2002' has him in full flow for England.
