| Bob 70-71 | May 2000 Follow the news of the offspring of the class of 70-71 !See Sons and Daughters31 May, 2000 Redknapp Out ! Well, sadly, it's looking less and less like Euro 2000 will have a currently recognised Next Generation star in the England line up. Jamie Redknapp has had another upsetting injury setback which has ruled him out of sellection having originally made the England 28 for the pre-tournament friendlies. Bad luck Jamie. See Official Liverpool FC Website - News Article - Keegan rules out Redknapp - 31-5-2000 and Official Liverpool FC Website - News Article - Jamie on England disappointment - 31-5-2000 Frank Scores Meanwhile, Frank Lampard, captain of the under-21s, is showing why he had a good claim to make the full squad. After a 2-0 defeat to Italy, the England team bounced back with an increadible 6-0 victory against Turkey. Frank even scored the opening goal. Howard Wilkinson is singing Frank's praises, and Frank is reportedly chuffed himself. See what Frank has to say at Football365 and see Howard's comments at Football365. See how England are getting on generally at England fc - and waddle steps up 23rd May, 2000 FA Cup Coverage Good to see Terry's daughter (Leeds United squad ) Gabby Yorath keep popping up interviewing various gadgers for the ITV coverage. None was older than the man who was 15 when he witnessed the very first Wembly Cup Final in 1923 ! This, of course, was the last Wembly final till it's rebuilt - how fitting that it should be a dull 1-0 scoreline. 15th May, 2000 1) Glentoran win the Irish Cup ! And before you say 'so what'. Well, the winning goal was scored by Ian Gilzean, Alan's son (Tottenham Hotspur). See Irish Cup Final 2000. Harry's son (West Ham) is the subject of a three page spread in this week's Match magazine (Saturady, 20 May). 3) Frank Lampard And cousin Frank, Uncle Frank's son (West Ham) also features in the magazine in a whole page advert for the Puma football boot Cellerator Resira. (See www.Puma.com ) 4) Jordi Cruyff Johan's son (Ajax),Jordi played his last game for Manchester United last Sunday against Aston Villa. Jordi is said to be choosing between Spain and the Premiership. Jordi grew up at Barcelonia where his dad played, and Spurs have expressed an interest in the U.K. See Football365 14 May, 2000 England 28 Kevin Keegan (Scunthorpe) has selected his 28 for the three England warm-up matches before the UEFA finals, whilst this will be whittled down to just 22 for the Championships themselves, one of the names that is likely to make it all the way is Jamie Redknapp, Harry's lad (West Ham United). See Football365 12 May, 2000 Frank Lampard Well done to Frank Lampard's (West Ham) son, Frank Lampard junior ! Young Frank is to captain the England team in the Under 21's European Championship this summer. Howard Wilkinson (Brighton and Hove Albion) is the side's coach. See WUnited FC - The Official Web Site. There remains the chance that he will be called up to the full squad. Twice last week I caught Ian Walker, the Spurs and England goalie, baring his soul to Talk Sport's Nicky Horne. During this he talked about his father the former Norwich City and Everton manager, Mike Walker. Well, Bob's 70-71 pages knows Mike better as goalkeeper at Watford, of course ! Mike played over 650 league games including 451 at Colchester United, and was a Welsh under-23 international. Ian has the dubious honour of joining Mike Summerbee's (Manchester City) son, Nicky, as having been conceived in the 1970-71 season !!! Mike had played every game of the 70-71 season until mid January, when Derek Edmonds took over for 9 games. One could speculate that Ian was the result of Mike being about the house a bit longer than usual late January, early February ... See February News 1 May, 2000 Last Gasps ! a) Jordi Cruyff There is much speculation than Johan Cruyff's (Ajax) son, Jordi, is on the move from Manchester United at the end of the season. However, his 86th minute goal, rather unfairly gave Man U all the points that confirmed relegation for Graham Taylor's (Lincoln City) Watford side. The scores were 2-2 before Jodi got his winner against the home team. b) Steve Clemence Likewise a 90th minute equaliser by Ray Clemence' s (Liverpool) son, Steve, rescued Spurs from a poor home performance against Derby County. Jim Smith's (Boston United) Derby side needed all three points to mathematically ensure their Premiership place for next season, and had a 1-0 lead till Steve's strike. It did not matter in the end because Sheffield Wednesday's defeat to Leeds United on Sunday gave Jim Smith's team the safety they required. See other May 2000 News ... |
