Bob and 1970-71 Footballers - a scary cult !!!??

Any readers of The Rough Guide to Cult Football (Rough Guides / Haymarket Customer Publishing, London. October 2003. UK price 7-99 pounds) may want to turn to page 227, under the headings of 'Football on the Web: Oddest football Sites:

'Bob likes the 1970-71 season, so here's a site about it - which scarily omits any mention of any other season or event. Where nostalgia turns freaky.'

Not entirely accurate, but hey, a mention's a mention, and beleieve me Bob's 70-71 Pages is very proud to be included in such a fabulous book. Personal highlights include John Dempsey's (Chelsea) photo in the introduction, the mention of the Willie Carr's flick (from 3 October 1970 - see Report), Pelé on the cover, along with endless 70-71 (or thereabouts) references. Buy it !

Thanks to Peter Lorimer for signing my copy of his autobiography before switching on the Christmas lights at Burley-in-Wharfedale, 29 November 2003 ! 'Oh so you're Bob' he almost commented (if he'd only known...)

Sponsor a line in a football film which includes the inspiration of Billy Bremner !

Photographer, Peter Robinson, has an excellent book out of photos from 60s and 70s football. Peter wrote to the site once and pointed out that he was the photographer of many of the line ups seen in The Football League Review - especially the fabulous shots that break the standard one line standing one line sitting mould.

Peter's work features in a picture special in the December 2003 (no 112) edition of FourFourTwo where a copy of the book can be won. There is also an exhibition called 'Football Days - The Exhibition' at Proud Central, 5 Buckingham Street, London WC2N 6 BP until 27 Novemebr 2003.

The book sounds like a Christmas present actually worth having. Order it from Amazon.co.uk Books Football Days Classic Football Photographs - and no I'm not on commission !

Another exhibition worth going to is the NEC in Birmingham when on 29 and 30 November 2003, there is a football signing special. Amongst those advertised to attend there is Charlie George, Denis Law, Jimmy Greaves, Pat Jennings, Ron Harris, Martin Chivers, Dennis Mortimer and Jimmy Greenhoff !!!

It costs 10 pounds for adults and 7 pounds for children and there will be collectables to buy. See Memorabilia @ The NEC - 29th & 30th November 2003 for more details.

The search is on for the whereabouts of Terry Cooper to sign Terry Cooper's tags ! For full details visit Peter Gable's site at Terry Cooper's Stocking Tags - Leeds United. Please email Peter or myself if you know how to contact Terry directly.
Good luck Peter !

Regular site correspondent, Neil Kaufman contacted me a while ago telling me about his excellent contribution to lofconline.com - Where are they now Orient. Apologies for being a bit slow passing it on - it got lost in the ever growing 'to do' box...

Not strictly speaking a Bob 70-71 Player as far as I'm aware, but he was an England World Cup winner, so it worth visiting BBC SPORT Have Your Say Q&A George Cohen

Uglyfootballers.com natrually has plenty of Sixties and Seventies football references and even offers the opportunity to play Ugly Footballers trumps. Nobby Stiles (8 on the uglyometer) features in the England XI. It is also an opportunity to relive the mullet.

Peter Young has added yet another great new page to his www.englandfootballonline.com website - see England Penalty Kick Misses !

As a fan of football and poetry myself, what better than to find a whole website devoted to a combination of the two. See Football Poets - football poetry, poems written by football fans.

An interesting site I came across whilst surfing the Net recently was FOOTBALLCRESTS.COM

Thanks to Mick for getting in touch. He writes,
'Bob
, Your site inspired me to start one of my own. It's first incarnation is here: www.toonarama.co.uk. It's small but will hopefully grow and grow. All the best, Mick'

This appeal caught my eye ... see Middlesbrough Official Site - Call for historic items for the full story...

BORO'S appeal for items of memorabilia and old photographs relating to the club has unearthed some interesting finds - but the search continues!

Among the latest items received are two Republic of Ireland international caps and a shirt worn by post-War Boro player Jimmy Hartnett. They have been loaned by Jimmy's son, Jim, and will be displayed in Boro's international display cabinet at the Riverside Stadium.

Boro plan to display more items relating to the club’s history within the Riverside Stadium. Boro are therefore keen to make contact with anyone with items such as old Middlesbrough shirts, footballs, international caps or other items relating to ex-Boro stars.

"We’re aware that many fans will have items that have been stuck up in the loft for years," said Mr Allan. "They might be old photographs, football cards or perhaps Boro programmes from years gone by. Often items like these get passed down through the family but are simply stuck out of the way, gathering dust.

"Others may even have more specific items such as international caps won by former Boro stars, a signed football or a pair of boots worn by an ex-player. We would be very interested in speaking to anyone willing to part with such items on either a temporary or permanent basis.

"These would then be cared for by the club and displayed for the enjoyment of Boro supporters. We are determined to retain as much of the club’s history here on Teesside, so that Boro fans for many years to come can enjoy it. Too many items have already been lost and will never be seen by the Teesside public again.

"We’re appealing for fans to give it some thought and contact us if they have anything that might be of interest."

Anyone with photographs or other items relating to Boro’s history can contact Dave Allan at the club on either (01325) 729916 or via email on media.dept@mfc.co.uk .
