The
following Obituary appeared in Rothman's Football
Yearbook 1999-2000
"Arthur was
originally with Hearts and played in the 1968 Scottish
Cup final defeat against Dunfirmiline. In November of
that year, he moved to Manchester City, and won a League
Cup Final medal, following victory over West Bromwich
Albion in 1970.

At home in either a
full-back role or midfield, Arthur made 35 League
apearances for City, had a short loan spell to Blackpool,
and then moved permanently to Notts County in July, 1972.
At Meadow Lane he amassed 253 League appearances, scoring
21 goals, helping the club to win promotion from the
Third Division, in 1973. In June 1979, he left County for
Shrewsbury, but after eight League outings and one goal,
he joined Mansfield Town four months later. He played 116
games for the Stags (three goals), before turning to
non-League football in the early Eighties. Arthur had
spells with Boston, Telford, and Kettering, then became
assistant-manager at Grimsby Town in 1989 and occupied a
similar post at West Bromwich Albion in the
mid-Ninties."

Arthur Mann Defender
(82-83, 83-86) Signed from Mansfield Town. Began his
career with Hearts but in 1969 was transferred to
Manchester City for £65,000, then a record for a
Scottish defender coming across the border. Following a
three and a half year stay at Maine Road was transferred
to Notts County for £15,000 where he stayed for seven
seasons making over 240 appearances. Then he moved to
Shrewsbury Town for £30,000 but left after only four
months to join Mansfield Town in 1979 in a £36,000 deal.
After one season with the Pilgrims when he was voted
"Player of the Year" he left to join up with
his former Notts County teammate Don Masson at Kettering
Town, but returned to York Street after only three months
with the Poppies. He took over as manager at end of 83/84
and led the Pilgrims to the FA Trophy Final at Wembley in
1985. After leaving the Pilgrims he played for Telford
United, then joined up with Alan Buckley as assistant
manager at Grimsby and later West Bromwich Albion. He
died in February 1999, aged 51, following an industrial
accident.
