At last an update on site emails !

I do answer all emails I receive, even if they don't always get transfered on to the site due to time constraints. Do try to include a meaningful subject heading or it'll get filtered out with the 100 to 150 spam mails I get every day !

In fact, I still have all the site's previous months' emails on record and barring a fatal hard drive crash they will actually appear on the site one day...but just when I'm not sure...

These were all received over the last month or so...

Subject: The Penalty King

Just to let you all know I have seen the first rushes of our two week shoot - 'The Workplace Scenes'  and am delighted to report that the performances, the camerawork, the lighting, the sound, the set, the make-up are all cooking beautifully.

Thanks to you all for your work, support, interest

We hope to screen some rushes at Babalabar Club Brighton soon!

Subject: Mark Lazarus (Orient)

Bob

Did Mark ever play for Spurs ? I remember his playing for  QPR in the 60's. At that time I lived in Greenford and joined the swaying crowds and small entrance gates being carried out at the end without ever touching the ground.

Good days ! Ray King.

Good days indeed. Well I see Mark came to professional football from Barking and played as you say for QPR - in 3 different spells in fact, he was also at Orient twice, Brentford, Crystal Palace and had a 9 game spell out of London at Wolves, but not ever for Spurs.

Here is Mark's full League career record:

Hi Bob

First of all congratulations for such an interesting website. (Thanks - Bob.)

I am a football fan from Malta and am always eager to read about the history and odd happenings of the history of football. So I'll be a frequent visitor to your site and even will try to take part in your quizes.

And to test your knowledge, here's a question for you. See if you can answer.

What two rituals was Ajax physiotherapist Bernnie Muller required to do for luck before every game in the early 1970s?

Cheers, Dave Farrugia

Thanks for that, I hope you will come back lots it'll always be good to hear from you. I have to admit I have no idea what the answer to your question is !

Subject Mark and Steve Aizlewood (Newport County)

I would just like to point out that my Uncle Steve also played for Swindon Town and Portsmouth

Thanks

Danielle Davies

Thanks for that Danielle.

The reason Steve only has Newport County listed on Bob's 70-71 Pages, is simply because that's the odd way this site works !

Just like Kevin Hector kept Bradford Park Avenue's name in the Rothmans Football Yearbook for many years after they lost League status, Steve kept Newport County's name alive also.

Indeed, I'm guessing that Uncle Mark - who played right up to 1995 - may even be the very last Newport County player to keep playing League football, though someone may know better.

Anyway, just for you Danielle, here is Steve's full League record. If you have a picture of Steve in his playing days I'll include it on his own page:

Steven Aizlewood

Born: Newport, 9 October, 1952.

Hi Bob...I have a question..I have an autographed  soccer ball from the England /Poland World  Cup pre qualifying round on 17th October..1974..

Some of the names are ..Alf Ramsey..Emlyn Hughes..Peter Osgood..Colin Todd..Peter Shilton...Ray McFarland..etc....It looks like MARTIN CHIVERS name is there...is this correct..????..

Could you please confirm this??

Thank you and looking forward to your reply..

Paula..

Yes it could have been Martin Chivers. If you click on the site
:
http://www.englandfc.com/nostal/yrbyyr/1970_1974.html

you'll see the whole line up for England that day. It was in 1973, though, not 1974.

Subject: Totts v WHU 70-71

I was at this match, my first away game it is amongst my favourite Stam memories. The whole ground applauded when Jimmy Greaves scored. Coming from Dagenham he should have always been at Upton Park but I understand we already had Johnny Byrne who was a very similar player?

I think myself lucky that I caught the 'goalden' age of football. My first match was v Newcastle at Upton Park 68/69 season. 2 or 3-1 to us with Geoff Hurst scoring.

I absolutely idolised Bobby Moore and still do!

I saw a lot of good players, George Best, Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, Alan Gilzean, Dave MacKay, the Leeds Team, Chelsea team etc. etc.

My best game was 80 FA cup semi final at Villa Park v Everton with Trev doing one of his usual mazy runs and laying it on for Stuart Pearson to equalize near the end!

Nick Spillman

Thanks for that Nick. It has always been something of a regret that I never saw Jimmy play. This is a game I've read about many times, it must be good to know you were actually there !

Bob, was Cedric Whitehouse, who wrote the song for Ron Atkinson, the same bandleader that was resident at Mecca Birmingham for 3 years or so in the 70s?

Pete Carver

I'm sorry I haven't a clue, I'm afraid. There cannot be too many Cedric Whitehouses, and Ron definately does sing Big Band style, but my 'expertise' is football rather than music. Anyone else know ???

Hello I am a Huddersfield Town lover.. I am from Norway.. I am 15 years old and like Huddersfield... go Huddersfield

Aleksander Olsen

It so happened I got this shortly before going to see Huddersfiled Town beat Division Three leaders, Hull City, so I was standing at McAlpine Stadium shouting, 'Go Huddersfield !' with the best of them.

Subject: Cagliari per sempre - La storia di un campionato leggendario

Cagliari per sempre by Paolo Gabriele and Mauro Giordani

Cagliari per sempre
di Paolo Gabriele e Mauro Giordani

Edizioni Aipsa – cartonato 144 pagine a colori. € 28,00.
