December 2002

Hi Bob, You probably think that I am being extremely pedantic, but wasn't the Portugese skipper in '66, Mario Coluņa? It's not easy to see from the photo (see photo) whether it was him or Eusebio shaking hands with Bobby , please look into it and let me know if it is Coluņa or Eusebio in the picture. Thanks a lot mate and congratulations for a terrific site.
Len Wilcock.

Well I've looked at the picture and it doesn't look like Eusebio to me, so I'll go with Coluņa. Thanks for that. Far from seeing this as being pedantic, I love getting corrections. 1966 is before my first hand memory, so I'm generally relying on information given to me, which is not always right. Thanks also for the comments about the site.

See Bobby Moore as Captain

Hello,
Just found your website just by typing
Ken Wagstaff.

My Dad, Paul Ellis, often talks about Waggy. My Dad was very talented as a full back in Shirebrook and Langwith and had trials with Notts County etc., but the thing he often said to me as I was growing up is what a superb player WAGGY was.

I'm now 40 myself and always follow the Stags, but me and Dad often think about Ken and what he would be worth in today's money, today's spoilt, so called superstars, with the million pound values aren't in the same class.

A true legend, a true gentleman and he never forgets Shirebrook and Langwith.

Claire

Waggy gets more email about him than any other player on the site (with George Best as the only possible exception). And everyone has good to things to say about him, which is really great, also. As you say a true legend.

Kevin Hector (King Kev) (Derby County) is now working as a postman in Derby, sad really when you think this guy could of been a national hero if someone wouldn't of cleared his shot off the line after he came on as a sub against Poland in that vital World Cup qualifier in 73.

'Broguefletch'

Quite so ! Though in this weather, our postal workers are all heroes, as far as I'm concerned.
