| Bob 70-71 | March 2002Hello Bob, great site you got. (Thanks ! - Bob) I've only just discovered it, and it was fun to see pictures and read about my old idol I the seventies, when I was a kid in Denmark, Willie Morgan. I remember a match in Copenhagen between the Danish and Scottish national teams. I went first of all to see Willie Morgan. Scotland wan 4-1, and the danish goal was scored by Finn Laudrup, the father of two small boys named Michael and Brian. Well I had to find out more about this and Jacob replied Hello again Michael and Brian Laudrup's father Finn Laudrup played from 1968-70 in Wiener SK in Austria (therefore Brian is born in Vienna), and went in 1971 back to Denmark to play for Bronshoj. Here's a couple of matches Finn played for Denmark against Scotland and scored:
Janet Keegan wrote I was interested in reading your web page but just wanted to point out a minor error. George Graham was not born in the town of Coatbridge. He was born in the village of Bargeddie. Thanks for that, I always like informationto be as accurate as possible. Coatbridge is actually the main town near the small village of Bargeddie, so I have now listed George's birthplace to list both towns ! Lewis writes Hi Steve Wilson For some time I have been interested to try and pin down the afternoon that I started following Chelsea. I was a young kid in Middlesbrough and totally disinterested in football (hardly surprising you may say!) when I went to my friends' house to see if they were playing. They were appalled at the idea because they were going to watch Liverpool and Chelsea on TV and they were mad-keen Liverpool fans. I decided to join them and when asked who I was supporting of course I had to say Chelsea just for completeness. Chelsea won and the rest was history. ... I came across a book called 'The Blues, day-to-day life at Stamford Bridge'. This book is arranged as a diary with everything of significance which has happened to Chelsea listed against each date, including all the old match results. I have been through it once quickly and the most promising looking entry so far is January 22 1966 when Chelsea beat Liverpool 2-1 in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Peter McConnell Peter will be well known to some regular followers to the site, well amazingly he has discovered that he is also a 1970-71 Player ! Peter said, 'it was good to find that I captained (Carlisle United) to 3rd in the 2nd Division !' Peter began his career at Leeds United before moving to Carlisle United and on to Bradford City - his team in 1970-71. See http://www.angelfire.com/dc/3games/PMcConnell.html Ian Jones asks 1) Which
former Sheff Wednesday footballer's father was a
legendary comedian ? 1) Imre Varadi -
Ollie being his 'Dad'. (Yes, it is an awful joke, but I
think it is the correct answer) David Taylor had a query Hello Bob Well Peter would only have been 16 during the '66 World Cup Finals, and before they began, he had played just 1 League game for Leicester City, so it would have been a very progressive choice ! Ron Springett and Peter Bonetti were the reserve goalies, neither of which played. Your friends are
probably mixing up the fact that Peter was the fourth
choice goalkeeper for England in 1970. He lost out
to Alex Stepney for the 3rd spot in the Mexico '70
Finals itself and did not debut for England until
November 1970 v East Germany. Peter Tetlow also on the subject of Shilts asks simply How many England caps did Peter Shilton get ? The answer is 125 Michael Sweeney has a real poser Which was the last team to win the Premiership / First Division wearing a striped strip ? What a great question ! I'd never noticed, isn't that amazing ! See more March 2002 news at the following ...
