Once again huge thanks to Francesco Parigi for this excellent profile.

Cesare Maldini

Cesare Maldini (right) wins the European Cup
with AC Milan at Wembly in 1963

In 1970-71 season Cesare Maldini, the father of Paolo four times European Champion A.C. Milan - defender, was the assistant manager of A.C. Milan, the "right arm" of Nereo Rocco

Cesare Maldini took over the manager's role of A.C. Milan in 1973-74 when Nereo Rocco  left his place during the Championship, but he was never really the full manager of this team, which he spent all his career - except his last season when he played in A.C. Torino.

After few years more in A.C.Milan, Cesare Maldini became a coach of the Italian Football Federation.

He was the assistant manager in World Cup 1982 with Enzo Bearzot, then he won three Under 21 European Championships, and in 1996 became the Italian manager.

In his first game Italy beat England at Wembley Stadium during 1998 World Cup Qualifying ties.

In France, during the 1998 World Cup Finals, he had many troubles with the Italian press for his overly defensive play. When the Italian team was knocked out against France (after penalties in the quarter-final) he resigned.

In 2002 he was the Paraguay coach in the World Cup Finals.
