About Bob 70-71

FKS 1970-71 - Blackpool

There will be three ages of football fans, 1) those that cannot believe Blackpool are not still in the top division, 2) those that cannot believe they ever were, and then 3) the fortysomethings, like me, who have moved from catagory one to catagory two as they've got older. The Sir Stanley Matthews years - from 1947 to 1961 - saw the club's only F.A. Cup win in 1953 plus two further visits to the final, and their highest League placing of the Championship runners-up in 1955-56. In 1962 they reached the club's best League Cup run as semi-finalists.

This side was promoted the season before (69-70), and went straight back down again in 70-71, in what was their most recent (I'm being nice) visit to the top league. But what the heck, they were Anglo-Italian Cup Winners in 1971!! And Jimmy Armfield was the last manager of a Leeds Utd. European Cup final side, you know...
