August 2000
Hi Bob here - school
holidays will severely affect the amount of reported news
this month !
20 August
Thanks to Jim Ross our Stateside
Correspondent, there is now a great new Leeds United team
photo from 1971-72, and I've also added a picture of Leeds with
the Championship trophy in 1969. All being well,
there should be plenty more from Jim in the coming
months.
Due to a new article from Doctor
Paul, The Great Lambino, John Lambie, has been added to
these pages. John is the current manager of the Scottish
Division Two side, Partick Thistle. Back in 70-71 he was
part of the St Johnstone side that had been League Cup
Finalists the season before losing to Celtic 1-0, and was
to be in the side that reached the eighth-finals of the
UEFA Cup in 1971-72. Only the current side matches these
achievements for St Johnstone.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers
page has been revamped to include all the player's career
figures.

Again thanks to an image from Ian Corry, Sir Geoff Hurst now has his own page.

You do not know how long I've been
trying to get around to this , but ... at last there is
now two new features.
Firstly there's a new 1970-71 quiz, culled from an authentical quiz book from the
season itself. I'll attempt monthly-ish updates on that.
And secondly, I've now started the
first of a new monthly feature of football news from the
same month 30
years earlier. In fact, it
comes complete with it's own archive, because August to December 1969 is also available.
To accommodate these two new features,
there's a new look navigation box at the foot of the
page, which actually features in the background, the back
page of my copy of the World of Soccer Stars Album !!
(See the bottom of the index page). My book's
frontpage is the background to the site generally.
