ABOUT THE AREA

Arisaig is surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty, with craggy mountains rapidly descending to the many bays and inlets along the coast.

The sea is crystal clear and the beaches are renowned for their soft white sand, an ideal place for exploring rock pools and collecting many types of shell.

There is an abundance of wildlife to be found in the area, from inquisitive seal pups to majestic stags and magnificent sea eagles.

Arisaig is the gateway to the fabled Small Isles. Daily boat trips to the Small Isles of Rum, Eigg and Muck can be made during the summer months from Arisaig harbour. On such trips there are regular sightings of whales, dolphins, porpoises and seals along with many varieties of sea bird.

PLACES TO VISIT

RUM
Rum is a Nature Conservancy island famous for its wild ponies, sea eagles and wide variety of wild flowers. Visitors to the island may enjoy a guided tour around Kinloch Castle which is situated within walking distance of the pier.

Eigg

EIGG
The Sgurr of Eigg, a 1,289 ft high pitch stone lava mountain dominates the island's skyline. However, the Singing Sands, natures very own aeolian harp, are a feature of this enchanting island not to be missed.

MUCK
Muck is the smallest island of the group. Its north side is especially fertile where the land benefits from wind blown shell sand.

MORAR
Before reaching the village centre you will pass the unique Silver Sands of Morar, made famous by its dazzling, white sand. Morar is also renowned for having the deepest freshwater loch in Europe, which in turn feeds into the River Morar, Europe's shortest river. There is said to be a "monster" living in the depths of the loch and sightings have been made occasionally.
