This was quite vexing.
Lino rejected this Subs Letter about half-a-dozen times because it kept crashing their machines. Second-guessing the culprit, I drastically simplified the design - where John Junkin is now, originally a caption said, "The story so far," above the entire first page again in miniature.
Eventually the fault was traced to the circular text on the record - the lino machines couldn't begin to understand it. This is why the printed version is so raggedly blocky: with (yet again) minutes to deadline and thus no time to substitute a new feature, I had to take a snapshot of the working version visible on my screen, then paste that in and jiggle it about to size.
All photographs of mad people should indicate the condition by duplicating the technique on p1. I laughed for 27.3 seconds when I first popped it in.
Astute readers may notice that, following the exhausting unbroken run of AP50 and AP51, this is AP54's Subs Letter. Diminishing numbers of AP staff put an increasing strain on my office-enragingly feeble workload, though I did manage to rush an old-style letterheaded one-sided A4 sheet of boring words into AP52 as a stopgap. Cleverly, the logo was altered to read "AMIGA POOR." I have not bothered to scan it.
