Vaccination

In the early part of this century my late grand-father served one week's imprisonment for failing to have his children immunised against smallpox. it seems that sometime after Dr. Jenner perfected inoculation it was made obligatory sometime in the eighteen hundreds to have children immunised. it seems that it was not as successful as it is today,, for in the initial stages of the experiment several people died.

Bevington Hall

Hidden away in the little hamlet of Wood Bevington is the house known as Bevington Hall, a large, gaunt, white building with oak beams. it has stood the test of time very well, considering that it is built on sand and has no foundations. It was a stronghold of the Catholics and boasts a priests hole. The last farming family to live there were the Fishers, the late Mrs. Fisher being a member of the Crawford family of biscuit fame. The land is still farmed by the Fisher family. A sad thing is that in the boundary wall of the house is an old, defunct, red pillar box, looking so forlorn now that it is redundant.
