The core of "Alma" consists of some of the most exciting artists to emerge from Spain in recent years: Felipe de Algeciras, Carmela Romero and Ana García (Dancers), Tito Heredia and Ramón (guitarists), Jasmine Villalobos and La Leo (singers). They are joined by other outstanding artists from Spain to make up a new company which combines electrifying skill with the raw energy and passion an audience craves for. Felipe de Algeciras came to London in 1991. Since then he has been working as a guest artist with many of the well known Flamenco companies which tour the UK, including Juan Martín's company, Esencia Flamenca and Flamenco Express to name but a few.

After more than a decade dancing with these various groups, Felipe has realised for some time now he has been creatively held back and artistically restricted and as a result he has decided to create his own company where he is now free to release his true artistic potential. Although some of Alma's performers are also guest artists with other companies, the overall style of this new troupe is very different to what we are used to seeing in the UK, in fact it's much more in tune with what's emerging from contemporary Spain today. Alma keeps the traditional roots of the flamenco art form on the flames and then adds a selection of contemporary ingredients to produce this new company with more energy and emphasis on the dancers, a re-styling of the movements and a more exciting fusion between the dancers and musicians.

From January 2002, Felipe de Algeciras will tour the UK exclusively with his new company "Alma", although he will keep returning to Spain as a guest artist with some of the leading Flamenco companies of the moment. The performers are also established teachers and therefore it is easy to incorporate workshops and classes (for adults or children) with their performances.
